riversideAK (1427), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 4, 2008 Amber in color with a thin head. Aroma of light smoked malt, a little fruity esters, and toasted malts. The flavor is some nice sweet toasted malt, some fruity esters - I got them at least, and light smoked meat. The smoke flavor in this one is rather light, but adds an interesting complexity to a rather straightforward amber lager. Finishes pretty clean. Pretty nice.
RSRIZZO (942), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 5, 2008 Aroma is a faint smoky scent. Color is a clear golden amber with good carbonation and a thin tight head. Taste is light and smoky. Starting with a light body it goes down smooth with a crisp feel on the end. Finish is sharp with a mild malt taste and a nice smoke flavor and ends bitter. After taste is clean with a dry bitterness. Its a very easy drinking brew that is well balanced, but it just not very exciting. Dickinsonbeer (2457), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 3, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium to deep amber with a thin lasting head. Aroma is more smokey than the flavor- some toasted malts, and light burnt toast with light bacon and smoked meats. Caramel malt flavor, toasted and rauch malts, but the smoke is subdued. Light clean finish with the smoke fading. Pretty good for a standard nice lager- I wish there was a bit more smoke, but otherwise I didn’t find anything off or offensive here. puzzl (1625), New York, New York, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle. I think its awesome that a brewer would make their standard lager a smoked beer. That easily propels Fort Collins high up on my list. And the smoke in this is definitely apparent. Perhaps a bit mushy and muddy, not the in your face bacon of Aecht, but solid none-the-less. And a great way to convert people to smoked beers. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 28, 2008 This bottled brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of foamy fine to large sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated light orange brown colored body. The aroma was malty and smoky. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish smoky aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt and smoky. malrubius (361), USA Jun 22, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Clear reddish amber with lasting flat head. Mild smoky brown sugar malt aroma. Mild smoky brown sugar toffee malty flavor mild mellow finish mild smoke lingering. Very nice for a mild version of a smoked lager. Could be bolder and smokier. Still, I would session the hell out of this. Would like to try it on tap. Also would go well with smoked foods.
