Introducing Kona Imperial Stout as part of the Fort Garry Brewmaster Series. Not your ordinary ale - this Imperial Stout was brewed with over 50 pounds of rich roasted coffee beans harvested from the sunny shores of Kona, Hawaii. We’ve also upped the ante by using two types of hops and an international blend of 10 different malts. The flavour is described as “intense in-your-face goodness" by Matt Wolff, our brewer here at Fort Garry. Enjoy a powerful balance of flavours from the malt, coffee and hops.

Pours thick black, with a medium sized brown mostly remaining head. Inviting aromas of a high intensity. woody, sweet smells heavy with coffee. (personally reminds me of a Tim’s iced cap... truly Canadian) Highly intense flavour. coarse body with a very long aftertaste. Robust texture with acid, salt, and coffee flavours on the tongue. Complex, rich, yet unbalanced flavour quality. I have never tasted a beer more like a cold cup of coffee. Appreciated.

How: Can (473 ml) at home. Thanks to Paul for this one!

>>> A well balanced but thin coffee forward Imperial (?) Stout. Not complex, but easy drinking.

- Dark brown with a medium brown head, decent retention and little lacing.
- Coffee forward with vegetal/herbal notes. There’s not much depth to the flavor profile, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.
- The malt backbone display some caramel, but it’s mild.
- Body is medium and light-ish for an "imperial" stout. Medium carbonation. Short aftertaste,
- Simple and rather easy drinking.

Flavors: Roasted malts, coffee, vegetal notes, mild caramel, chocolate.

Can - Dark roast and espresso notes. Jet black with a really nice light brown head. Chocolate covered coffee beans and a roast coffee bitter finish. Coffee overwhelms, but in a very nice way. I am surprised at how much I am starting to like their canned beer. Well done.

Pours clear ruby brown with one fat finger of dense tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is roasted coffee, dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, moderate boozy alcohol. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Medium body, soft carbonation, astringent and slightly boozy finish. (4/5) Yeah, not really an “imperial” stout. “Coffee stout”, sure - and not a bad one. But it could stand to be heavier, both in body and in ABV. There’s also a bit of unbalanced astringency coming from the heavy coffee flavour that could stand to be smoothed out, maybe with a bit of lactose. (14/20)

ENG: 473ml can from Liquor Mart, Winnipeg, poured into a snifter. Almost black color, like oil, with very dark brown, medium head with beautiful lacing. Aromas of roasted coffee with caramel malts and hints of alcohol. Probably letting this beer age for a while would reduce that alcohol aromas. If you know how Kopiko candies tastes - this is how I feel the aromas, and it’s also hardly pronounced in the beer’s taste. There is also roasted coffee and caramel malt and hints of dark chocolate and earthy bitterness in the finish (Kopiko candies are much more sweet in the finish, and that’s what distinguish this beer from them). Light to medium body with no saturation. This is a very good beer, but that’s definitely not the Imperial Stout, it’s too light in every aspect, except the strong coffee flavour. ///~~~///~~~/// ///~~~///~~~/// PL: Puszka 473ml kupiona w Liquor Mart w Winnipeg, przelana do sniftera. Prawie czarna, oleista barwa, bardzo ciemna, brązowa piana z pięknym lejsingiem. Aromaty palonej kawy, słodów karmelowych z nutami alkoholu. Pewnie gdyby dać mu poleżakować to te alkoholowe aromaty by się ułożyły.

Bottle. Heavy aroma of roasted coffee and that really comes thru in the flavor and gives it its bitterness. IBU 50. There’s also a hint of chocolate. Nice brew if you like the coffee stout.

22 oz. bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small khaki head. The aroma and flavor is roasted malt, strong coffee, some chocolate notes with a hint of earthy bitterness to the finish. The body on this is a bit thin and with the abv being so low it doesn’t seem very imperial.

Dark coffee brown pour with a small, creamy brown head. Lots of coffee here, with some sweet vanilla flavour, malt and some subtle complementing spices as well. Very enticing aroma to boot - smells like a boozy dessert coffee. While not overly complex or perfectly balanced, I really liked this beer.
