3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerinmarch (2830) - USA - JUL 1, 2008
On tap at Belmont Station. Pours very dark brown, close to black, but to thin to get that motor oil look to it. Very solid stout, the bourbon is pronounced but not overwhelming, complimenting the dry dark chocolate flavor. Finish is like cocoa powder and some burnt chocolate residue. Decent body on the palate, but I’ve had too many over-the-top imp stouts recently to call it heavy by any means. Well built and a nice treat.

I tried this beer as part of a Fort George stout flight at the Belmont-Station in Portland, Oregon. Smooth and velvety in flavor, with the bourbon kicking in during the finish. A solid stout, not smoky and no gimmicky flavors (other than the bourbon, but I don’t think that’s a gimmick!). Lovely beer overall.

On tap at Apex with mcberko, pours a solid black with a red tint and a small creamy head. Aroma of bourbon, roast and chocolate. Flavour of bourbon, vanilla, roasty chocolate, licorice and nougat - like an alcoholic "double decker" chocolate bar. Palate is dominant on the bourbon, rich, roasty, and malty. Nice.

On tap at Apex in Portland, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon and chalk. Flavour brings out the bourbon strongly, followed by vanilla and some booze. This is a bourbon bomb. Not much of the original stout left. Solid, but the bourbon is overburdening.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 14, 2010
Sample at the brewpub, part of Stout Month. Pours black with a thin off-white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and malt. Full, smooth body with flavors of oaky bourbon, dark malt and vanilla. Mild dark fruit notes as well. The finish is bourbon and malt with a dark fruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Fort George, a cool place in the hometown of the Goonies. I normally do not like the barrel aged version of a beer less than the original, but that was the case here. Did not find the barrel aging to add much, and it wasn’t too pronounced in the flavor. A bit more fruitiness. Just ok for me.

On tap at Belmont Station for Barrelfest--Poured a rich dark brown-black body with a thin off-white head. Thick, viscous and creamy-oily. Lots of heavy malt and bourbon in the nose as well as some spicy hops. Very thick. Complex, fruity, rich, dark and nutty. A lot going on in this one. Very nice.

had on tap at the horse brass.very approachable bourbon barrel beer.not alot of bourbon heat, what it did get from the cask was tons of vanilla flavor.the stout its self is very nw big malt backbone, and the hops to back it up.

On tap @ Green Dragon Bistro (Portland)
Pitch black with smallish head that does leave some decent lace.
Toffee, caramel, chocolate, marshmallow, raisin, bit of oaky vanilla and bourbon.
Tastes very similar to the nose. Big malty flavors with raisin, caramel, marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla and small bit of bourbon oak.
Smooth and kinda creamy mouthfeel but a little over-carbonated. Pretty damn drinkable.

Tap at the Green Dragon, board said this one was Bourbon Barrel aged... Poured black with a thin tan head. Espresso aroma. Spicy alcohol mixed with hops, malt, and leafy herbs. Chocolate and caramel give way to the chalky, dark malt, stout aesthetic.
