COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An immense, bold, black as night, american stout beauty; Cavatica is no dry Irish anything. Made in the tradition of terminator, except stronger, one sip and you will surely take notice of what you’re drinking. The name honors this brewer’s affinity with arachnia. Be forewarned, this beer will stain your clothes.

Pint can. Poured deep brown with a quick-forming, well-retained head. The aroma picked up burnt black patent and dark chocolate malts with fairly sharp, kind of medicinal accents.. alcohol amplified.. this came across rough. The flavor found toasty, fairly generic black malts and a hit of espresso at the core.. sharp metallic/medicinal notes throughout.. dry finish with burnt malts, alcohol warmth (including some raw stuff), and carryover sourness. Medium-bodied and sharp through the palate.. I wanted to like this, but it just wasn’t pleasant.

Black body with lasting tan head. Kelpie, earthy hop, dry black malt, dark chocolate aromas. Frothy light mouthfeel. Bitter dry chocolate, earthy hop flavors with a table sugar sweetness--not bad.

16oz Can. The pour was a muddy pitch black with a large (2-3 finger) khaki colored rocky head that slowly receded, down to a thin film with a medium collar and produced good sticky streaky lacing. The aroma was of a roasted dark bread malt, pine hops and a leathery yeast with notes of dark chocolate, coffee and possessed a moderate alcohol odor. The taste was quite roasty and rather malty with a bold bitter chocolate presence early on, becoming quite a bit hoppier with a nice roasted coffee note and a bit of alcohol towards the finish. The flavor lingered for a very long time proceeding the swallow, with a bitter hoppy taste left behind to settle in on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was full in body with a dry, creamy texture and a mild carbonation. Overall this was a nice hoppy Stout that had a nice thick creaminess to it. This is definitely a brew that a hophead would truly enjoy, in fact it’s kind of like (but not) a thick Black IPA...

473ml can pours black in color with a finger of light brown head that leaves a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and roasted grains with a hint of coffee beans. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with a light citrusy and roasted grain bitterness. Medium to heavy body with moderate carbonation providing a nice mouth feel. Nicely done brew is appropriate for the style and recommended.

Nice black body with off-white head, creamy, roasty, hoppy, coffee-ish, and a nice balance of chocolate with a nice dry (but not overly so) finish. Unpretentious and delicious.

Can shared by Dogbrick at Septoberfest V: Septoberfest Rises on 9/29/12. Brown in color with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt and dry roast with a molasses note. Malty flavor with some licorice character before a chocolate and roast finish.
