Draft at the brewpub. Sort of roasted rye aroma. Brownish mahogany color tones with a lacing white head. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Starts roasted sweet with underlying hop. Seems a little wheaty. Heat is present, but it does not interfere with the flavors. Finish is sweet, somewhat balanced with bitter. A tasty sipper.

Deep amber body with a soft eggshell white head. Sweet caramel nose, fruity and a bit citrusy. Softer palate then most barleywines, which is nice, a bit more easy drinking, although I’m not sure of the abv.

Tasted at brewery in Astoria, OR--Poured a deep chestnut amber body with soft white head that dissipated. Malty, hoppy, busy boozy nose. Hard to tell this was a wheatwine. More like a complex hoppy and bitter barleywine. A little too busy to make it great, but a worthy specimen nonetheless.

18-Jan-08 (Draft: 2008 Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Festival in Anchorage, AK) The fresh hops flavor is citrusy, piney and medium in bitterness. Fairly malty, lightly roasty, caramely malts are fairly sweet, very mild notes of sherry-like oxidative notes, but the malts and hops are in good balance. Medium-full body and light-medium in carbonation, but the palate is still lively from hops bitterness and dry from the roast. The beer is only mildly aromatic at best with sweet and caramely malts up front and mild hops in the background. Dark ruddy to light brown in color and fairly cloudy. Bubbly, tan head settles to a wide ring. Overall, a balanced, west coast style barley wine with the expected bitter finish.
