Inspired by the tried and true Vortex IPA, but bigger, hoppier and just as balanced as the Vortex that Fort George drinkers have been keen to since the brewery was almost scattered in a corn field. The brewers at Fort George were making A LOT of Vortex, but just felt like it needed more umph. After a rather strong early batch of Vortex in the pub, the regulars agreed, but this was not for the full pint. This beer is not for everyone, but surely hoppy and big enough for many in the Pacific Northwest. Heavily hopped with Summit and Cascade hops.

Can. Colour...cloudy deep gold with a thick white head. Nose...massively piney hops but with some mango and pineapple mixed in. Palate...thick, chewy and biting with big time hop resin! This is a big one! There’s heavy duty hops all over the place and intense bitterness along with a big malty backbone. The finish is long and rather boozy.

Bottle pour at home, light amber pour hop aroma, little sweet nice bite at the end hides the ABV well.

22 from the COOP for about $9... Seems a little pricey, but it will be even more expensive at the other bottle shops around Boise. Pours a lightly hazed orange with a nice long lasting white head... foamy with good lacing. Heavier malt than I like for a DIPA, but the ABV is up to 9.9%, so I guess there is some leeway granted. Bright citrus hoppiness seems like navel orange or clementine zest.. The palate has more of a modern tropical fruity/pineapple hoppiness... Still it is pretty sweet/malty, I would like it to be significantly drier and allow the hops to be a bit more brash.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Pours out orange amber, with minimal beige head. Normal IPA aroma, taste within range, warmth comes in very late. Hides ABV well. Tasty, not overpowering, pretty good for a big beer.

Bottle @ Three Notch’d Tasting. Amber pour with a small head. Very malty aroma. Fat and sweet. Bread, caramel. Candied fruit and marmalade .Taste is similar. Toasted grain, caramel. A bit of lemon and grassy bitterness on the finish breaks things up a bit. Full bodied, soft carb.

Warm peach tan coloring, ok head. Strong citrusy nose with a bit of hair on it, ruffles the olfatory senses. There are small doses of skunky orange. Quite a strong brew. Orange and green bitterness dominate, but no real off-flavors. Tastes fairly high octane.

Bomber via Ian. Dirty amber with dark tan head. Sweet caramel malt with lots of muted hops, grapefruit, moderate carbonation, moderate body, mild sweet followed by lots of bitterness and alcohol, long finish. Tasty but not sure if I would describe as a DIPA.
