India pale aleís were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort Georgeís first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find itís home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of natureís intensity in every pint. IBU 97

My favorite IPA. Wonderful balance between hops and body. Bitter, but not overly so.

16 oz can poured a orange yellow color with a little head that dissipates quick and leaves good lacing. Nice aroma of tropical fruit and oranges. The taste is similar with powerful hop bitterness. Dry finish. Overall a great IPA that is well balanced.

Draught at Bar XV in Portland. Very considerable citrus hoppy nose. Copper/straw color. Scrumptious citrus initial / caramel sneaks in nicely in mid palate. cake-like finish. Medium body. What a smooth and tasty brew!

Can to glass. Pours a clear light amber copper color with a foamy light tan head. Aroma is very pleasant, mostly citrusy tropical fruit hops and a hint of sweetness. Flavor is moderately bitter with lots of citrus. Light in body and very drinkable. Lingering bitter and sweet in the finish. Delicious.

Serving: from can--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate, pine hop. Appearance: small, creamy, off-white initial head with good lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Hazy, light-amber body. Taste: moderately bitter, grapefruit initial flavor and finish with long duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation.

16 ounce can from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This beer poured opaque dingy brown gold. It had big chunks of off white sediment that circulated around constantly. An off white head that leaves thick lacing. The aroma is nice with grapefruit, citrus, and tropical fruits. Not much malt is noted. Big grapefruit to start. This is definitely hop forward. Bitterness is fairly big but overly so. The hops are classic west coast IPA and are quite nice. Tropical fruit and perhaps a bit of oatmeal. Pineapple emerges. This is very nice and well brewed. It sits on the fence of being a double and could go either way. As well as the 7.5 ABV the flavor is big, too.

Citrus, pine, caramel in the aroma, pours a chunky golden/orange with a white head and moderate lacing. Nice pine, citrus, floral, dank, resin flavor with quality malt character and nice lasting heavy bitterness in the finish.

Canned 26MAR12 Golden with a annoyingly persistent three fingers of dense foam. Grapefruit and alfalfa with sweet malts on the nose, nothing spectacular. Flavor is bitter and spicy with plenty of hops. The malts are slightly sweet and biscuity. Medium bodied with hi carb and an off dry finish. Pretty decent beer. Would probably enjoy more on tap and a little colder. Serving type: can 06-09-2012

Draught. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a smallish off white head on it. Nose is quite hoppy, with some citrus tones and just a bit of pepper coming through. Taste is quite bitter and pleasant, but with a slightly earthy aftertaste. Pretty good drink.
