India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

16 oz can- Pours slightly hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma is piney, citrus, dank and resinous, fresh marijuana. The taste is very resinous, piney, citrus, tobacco, grassy. Body is medium and carbonation is medium high. Really tasty stuff, i know i’ve had beers from this brewery before, but this one really stands out, might have to look out for more from them.

Very slight hop scents, with maybe a tiny hint of citrus. Sort of a dark golden, a little bit of cloudiness. The flavor has very strong malt characteristics, with an after taste of some hops. Not a hoppy IPA at all

Poured from a can. One of my first experiences with a northwest IPA. Not a fan of this one at all. Good hop aroma but the taste was more earthy and dull, with a bitterness that left my palate dry. Not what I am looking for when I drink a IPA.

On tap at PDX in Henry’s. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of floral and citrusy hops with some light pine, some pale and light caramel malts, and some dough. Flavor the same with a nice hoppiness. Average texture. A pretty good IPA.
