COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

16oz can @ home thanks to Douglas88. Pours almost clear orange with some small floaties, big white head. Aroma is fresh, sweet, fruity with grapefruit and orange as the most dominating. Flavour is again very fresh and medium bitter reminds me of the best summer days. Oranges, lime, pineapple and grapefruit. Medium body, medium carbonation, finish is long and balanced bitterness. I like the balance not overly bitter, fresh and quite drinkable.

I poured this into a tulip, inhaling the aroma of toast and pine as soon as the can was cracked. The amber pour is bitter, sticky and full of flavor...also is obviously quite unfiltered. Tipping the glass to my lips leaves a heavy cream-colored lace, and with every pull leaves a set of consistent rings to mark my journey through the brew. The bitter is angry, but not evil, and gives me that jaw pop that is so familiar to those who love hops and other various bitter things. The grapefruit is more apparent the warmer this gets, and I am finding a new go-to in this beer. The medium body and balanced carbonation has got me won, and I will be happy to recommend this one to friends that enjoy a solid IPA!

Not feeling this one. Didn’t taste super fresh, or more than english ipa type hoppy. Well balanced? Sure. But not really what I want in an IPA. Subpar for the style, at least the sample i had (94 on RB?!). "

Hazy amber color. The aroma is quite fruity and nice, the flavor is caramelly and a bit cloying.

Can in Seattle. Pours gold with a white head. Nice funky light veg, over ripe fruit, pine aroma. Medium body, medium carbonation. Nice and juicy, with tangerine, pine, lemon, pineapple, light wood, grapefruit... Nice balance, lots going on. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Canned 17 July 2014. Pouring a clear amber with a dense, off white head with excellent retention and minimal lacing, this looks solid. The nose is great. Bright, pungent and dank hops with grapefruit, grapefruit pith, pine, weed, a little chalk and a little grass. A little caramel is present. The palate opens with a moderate bitterness, plenty dank with a pronounced weed character. A little grassy, which distracts from the wonderful bitterness and moderate hop flavor that’s comprised of grapefruit, pine and a little melon. The mid palate is smooth and creamy with a little sweetness before a long, clean ,bitter finish with flavors of grapefruit and west take over. A little candied melon is present as well. Medium light in body with moderate carbonation, this tastes solid. Definitely worthy, a great NW IPA.
