COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

16 ounce can from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This beer poured opaque dingy brown gold. It had big chunks of off white sediment that circulated around constantly. An off white head that leaves thick lacing. The aroma is nice with grapefruit, citrus, and tropical fruits. Not much malt is noted. Big grapefruit to start. This is definitely hop forward. Bitterness is fairly big but overly so. The hops are classic west coast IPA and are quite nice. Tropical fruit and perhaps a bit of oatmeal. Pineapple emerges. This is very nice and well brewed. It sits on the fence of being a double and could go either way. As well as the 7.5 ABV the flavor is big, too.

Citrus, pine, caramel in the aroma, pours a chunky golden/orange with a white head and moderate lacing. Nice pine, citrus, floral, dank, resin flavor with quality malt character and nice lasting heavy bitterness in the finish.

Canned 26MAR12 Golden with a annoyingly persistent three fingers of dense foam. Grapefruit and alfalfa with sweet malts on the nose, nothing spectacular. Flavor is bitter and spicy with plenty of hops. The malts are slightly sweet and biscuity. Medium bodied with hi carb and an off dry finish. Pretty decent beer. Would probably enjoy more on tap and a little colder. Serving type: can 06-09-2012

Draught. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a smallish off white head on it. Nose is quite hoppy, with some citrus tones and just a bit of pepper coming through. Taste is quite bitter and pleasant, but with a slightly earthy aftertaste. Pretty good drink.

ACHops (672) - Seattle, Washington, USA - NOV 30, 2013
On tap @ White Eagle. Pours light golden orange with medium thick white head. Aroma is light pale malt and big juicy citrusy piney hops. Taste is similar: pleasant malt body quickly dominated by big hops - bitter and earthy with floral, pine, and orange flavors as well. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Pretty solid for an everyday IPA.

Pours a thin head on a cloudy straw colored body. The aroma is a nice pine and grapefruit smell. The taste has a moderate pine and lemon bitterness that is balanced throughout the profile. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. A solid IPA and very enjoyable.

Good IPA. I could see this being someone’s favorite, just not mine. With that said another well balanced IPA that was easy to drink.

16 ounce can bought at a local grocery store. 4 pack for 9 bucks. Not bad considering they were bombers. Actually a good deal. Pours a bright orange color with a large white head. Big sweet fruity nose. Great flavor: marmalade, orange peel lengthy bitterness, light toast, big orange almost bursting through, leaves with tons of bitterness and resin in the tail. Really subtle in ways that Pliny is. That is, balance along with huge dominant bitter hops. Actually the more I have this the more I think it tastes like Pliny. A bit lighter but similar. Simcoe is huge. Excellent job.

Poured from can to glass nice clear orange-ish amber with nice white head. Aroma is hopped with essence of grapefruit, citrus, and pine. Light bodied with nice carbonation contributes to a great mouthfeel. Finishes bitter but with a lingering piney, citrus-fruity aftertaste. A really nicely balanced IPA. Not just your typical "bitter", but a well-rounded brew throughout all aspects.

Can. Pours clear orange with frothy white head. Smells really hoppy, very fresh, sweet. Tastes really smooth, nice sweet malts, oranges and grapefruit. A really nice IPA! Highly recommended!
