India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

16 ounce can bought at a local grocery store. 4 pack for 9 bucks. Not bad considering they were bombers. Actually a good deal. Pours a bright orange color with a large white head. Big sweet fruity nose. Great flavor: marmalade, orange peel lengthy bitterness, light toast, big orange almost bursting through, leaves with tons of bitterness and resin in the tail. Really subtle in ways that Pliny is. That is, balance along with huge dominant bitter hops. Actually the more I have this the more I think it tastes like Pliny. A bit lighter but similar. Simcoe is huge. Excellent job.

Poured from can to glass nice clear orange-ish amber with nice white head. Aroma is hopped with essence of grapefruit, citrus, and pine. Light bodied with nice carbonation contributes to a great mouthfeel. Finishes bitter but with a lingering piney, citrus-fruity aftertaste. A really nicely balanced IPA. Not just your typical "bitter", but a well-rounded brew throughout all aspects.

16 oz can poured a hazy amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bread, earthiness, grapefruit and pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, grapefruit zest and light pine with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.

Cask at GBBF 2013. It pours clear amber with a small bubbly white head. The nose is wood, resin, sweet honey, light floral and earth. The taste is bitter-sweet, oily, varnish, wood, earth, resin, unami aspect, caramel and alcohol. Medium body, low carb and oily mouth-feel. A bit cloying after a bit, but decent nonetheless...

Good IPA. More resin forward, but not untowardly so. This one is all hops, all the time. B ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Orange pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee, grass and orange citrus. The flavor is similar with a good dose of toffee and orange. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
