COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

Serving: from can--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate, pine hop. Appearance: small, creamy, off-white initial head with good lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Hazy, light-amber body. Taste: moderately bitter, grapefruit initial flavor and finish with long duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation.

Poured from a can dated 04/01/2015. Aroma is fairly hoppy with a strong Northwest hop character. Lots of grapefruit and pine resin. Light, pale malt notes. Some light fruit esters. Pours a slightly cloudy, pale yellow gold with a small, thin, white head that recedes to a thin film where it lingers. Moderate lacing and medium length legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a moderate, pale malt note. Medium light cracker and biscuit notes. Moderate hop notes of a pine resin and grapefruit. Medium bitterness with a fairly dry finish. Some light stone fruit esters. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer. Lots of classic Northwest hop character with a dry, pale malt character. Rather bitter, but not over the top.

1 pint can from Jamie. Pours a clear golden with a small whit head ghat leaves nice lacing. Nose is of diesel, onions, resin. Taste is pretty sweet and moderately bitter (although it feels like a lot less because of all that sugar) with flavors of caramel, fruits and resin. Body is medium and carbonation light. It is too heavy for my liking and where are the tropical fruits and/or bursting hoppy aromas and flavors? Just OK, I wouldn’t ask for it again.

Draft pour at Frankies pizza. Pours a cloudy copper color worth a thin bubbly head. This beer tastes sweet and fruity right away. Tropical in my opinion. Maybe a little too sweet. I feel like it’s missing the boldness I love about IPAs, but this is pretty good either way. Quite refreshing. Good stuff.

Tall boy can, vigorously poured into my shaker pint. Dark caramel color, clear and full of floaties. Topped with a large beige head, two fingers at first. The nose is moderately rich; citrus and floral. Some caramel. Well-developed hops flavor; citrus, grapefruit, and piney. Faint floral and earthy bits. Strong, but not overly bitter or sweet. Good brew.

Draft - Tangerine no tropical fruit. Clear gold with a rich beige head. Light tropical fruit and sweetness with a bit of grain. Not as good as it sounds.

This is my third one and this one was currently poured into a pint glass. Bottom of the can said "12/09/14. The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange color. A fair amount of floaties roamed about with a thin sixteenth finger’s worth of white semi-foamy head that dissipated within a decent twenty seconds. Light spider web to off sort of all over lacing speckled the glass all around. The smell had a fairly decent malted grapefruit-esque to slight piney to floral part coming about. The taste was fairly bittersweet with a fairly leading grapefruity to piney edge and leading to a smoothed out sort of decent citrus aftertaste. A fairly nice palatable semi-dry finish accompanies the aftertaste. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent carbonation to it. 7.5%, hmmmm....canning date, makes me think, hmmmm....yeah, well, uh...(wishing for something just a tad fresher). Overall, I say this was a pretty good AIPA, however, I wish I had this a tad bit fresher, ah, oh well.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a beer can glass on 01.27.15. A: Grapefruit and biscuity malt. Very citrusy. A: 2 finger head that is retained. See through amber body with some unfiltered chunks. T: Grapefruit and earthy biscuit dominate. Tangerine and some spice are more subtle. P: Crisp and a bit chewy. I like it. O: This wasn’t very bitter. It didn’t seem like 97 IBU, but FG wrote on the label that they wanted to balance the hops. It was easy drinking. I’d buy it again.

Looks apricot yellow. Smells of pretty big american hops and decently big pale malts. Tastes like a solid IPA.
