Aroma is roasted malt, light chocolate and vanilla. Appearance is a deep black, with a straight brown head. Taste is bitter coffee, dark chocolate and finishes dry. A little thin, more comparable to a Sierra Nevada Narwhal. Mouthfeel is pretty good, somewhat soft carbonation and sticky. Overall, not a bad brew for a pretty upstart brewery.

Draft at the pub. Pours black, very small head that leave some decent lacing. Aroma is chocolate, light roast, vanilla, and anise. Taste is slightly sweet up front with vanilla and light roast. Anise and a bit of chocolate come through in the finish. No hop flavor, no bitterness. Fairly thin mouthfeel and a bit watery. Decent flavors but boring. Just feels like something's missing.

Growler sampled during the Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/21/12. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of raisins, chocolate, roast and a slight chemical note. Chocolatey and boozy flavor up front, giving way to raisin and marshmallow before a chocolate finish.

Decent interpretation of the style. It doesn’t compete with some of the best in the category but does hold its own. Worth drinking again, no doubt

Roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Medium body with a roasty malt character and notes of chocolate and coffee. The finish is malty with a mild coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

My favorite year-round beer at Fort Street. Not too weak, very dark, decent mouthfeel (not too creamy, but not fizzy). Nice amount of bitterness with more minimal sweet.

On tap at the pub. Black body and decent head. The aroma is mostly of chocolate and a hint of coffee. Medium mouthfeel on this. Flavor was big on the sweet chocolate, and that was about it. Pretty one dimensional, but tasty at the same time.
