COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial Stout style. This is the king of the stout family. Originally brewed in England for transport to Russia, where it quickly gained favor with the Czars. Full-bodied, roasty, hoppy, and very warming. IBU's=75

Growler sampled during the Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/21/12. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of raisins, chocolate, roast and a slight chemical note. Chocolatey and boozy flavor up front, giving way to raisin and marshmallow before a chocolate finish.

Decent interpretation of the style. It doesn’t compete with some of the best in the category but does hold its own. Worth drinking again, no doubt

Sample from growler at the 4th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/21/2012: The beer pours black with a medium khaki-colored head that recedes quickly. Short strings of lacing. Roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Medium body with a roasty malt character and notes of chocolate and coffee. The finish is malty with a mild coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

My favorite year-round beer at Fort Street. Not too weak, very dark, decent mouthfeel (not too creamy, but not fizzy). Nice amount of bitterness with more minimal sweet.

A light cream texture, small head. An aroma of Chocolate. A taste of charred chocolate. A very dark brown color.

On tap at the pub. Black body and decent head. The aroma is mostly of chocolate and a hint of coffee. Medium mouthfeel on this. Flavor was big on the sweet chocolate, and that was about it. Pretty one dimensional, but tasty at the same time.

On tap at the brewpub: Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma, roasted notes and chocolate. Flavor, chocolate, earthy some roated notes, mild bitterness, with a sweet finish, body was on the thin side of medium.

On tap 3.16.06. Black with 2 finger tan head, fades to film, great lacing, growing legs, coats entire glass. Aroma dominated by chocolate and vanilla. Flavor much the same, tons of residuel sugars, subtle hints of licorice and spice, I guess anise? Light citrus hop presence in finish. Maybe a tad too sweet for me, otherwise pretty solid.

On-tap at Pizza Plant in Buffalo. My first offering from his brewery and unfortunately it was not a best foot forward. Colour was a lighter black with bubbles. Too much carbonation and watery body with the roast. Really a stout and not a thicker expected imperial stout.
