COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.

Bottle, thanks a zillion to the great Eldesmadre! This is a very interesting Baltycki porter, with little more than a rusty Dunkel aroma when in the bottle. Now, having said that, as soon as it pours, a strong Nutellical scent blooms out, sweet, of course, with milk chocolate and a good dose of hazelnuts. The beer is a dark coca cola appearance, with very little head (off-white) to be excited about, but the flavour is a new surprise, very distinct from most other dark beers: yes, there is a great dose of Italian hot chocolate (the thick ones) and there is Dutch salty liquorice, but also that wonderful, mysterious miracle elixir, a syrupy concoction with a much more enticing and subtle Kräuter note, and I use the “more” as a comparison to its other Polish or Lithuanian neighbour porters. It is rather boozy and tremendously salty, which I find terrific! The finish is salty and creamy sweet, brief, and that very evident alcohol is not offensive, but just charming enough to make it a fantastically warming porter. Medium bodied, I find it an enchanting pint!

It would be near-perfect if not the irony notes. Seriously, everything in this beer is proper, except for that little thing.
Smell is really strong, packed with chocolate and dark malty goodness, dense and full with some liquorish hints and raisins in chocolate. It would be really impressive if not the Irony note which is fortunately nicely hidden, although easy to trace during the skin test.
Flavour just gets better and is pretty complex, starts pretty sweet with some liquorish notes, then comes the chocolate and mildly bitter, alcoholic finish.
Some of higher alcohols can be felt on palate, along with slightly warming finish. Medium carbonation, full, silky body, extremely tasty and good.
Naily smell was the only dissapointment. Of course it is pitch black like it should be, head drops to a ring after a while, but has nice retention. I hope that the batch which recieved bronze on World Beer Cup was free of this tiny flaw.

Butelka. Aromat palony, czekoladowy, kawowy, karmelowy, palonych słodów. Ponadto likierowy, pralinowy, delikatna wanilia. Alkohol świetnie ukryty. W smaku jest paloność, czekolada ciemna, kawa, czekoladki z likierem. Alkohol jest przyjemny, rozgrzewający. Piwo jest gładkie i jedwabiste w ustach.

coffe, chocolate, raisins aroma, full taste, not sweet, quite strong roasted malt taste (I like it in this beer), colour black (really black), the best baltic porter

Nice malty chocolatey aroma, deep, dark, yet extremely clear. A bit harsh on the finish especially for a Baltic Porter. Darker malts are a bit more prominent than I would like for this style. I like this beer but prefer other versions of the style.

Colour: black opaque. Head: small, fine grained, poor retention. Aroma: coffee, cocoa, slight liquorice, sweet. Taste: coffee, cocoa and more cocoa. Alcoholic in the beginning but the aftertaste is pure cocoa. Very sweet, malt heavy.

Bottle. Beaten eggwhite head, that begs for a bonus. Amazingly deep aroma of chocolate, ground cocoa, a generous amount of licorice, some roast and notes of vanilla. But the flavour manages even to surpass that. All that is in the aroma, just bigger, better, more. The chocolate part is stronger at the expense of the licorice, it is full, light sweet and pleasantly warming in the light bitter, light coffeeish finish. Amazing!

In taste very nice coffee, dark malts, dried fruits, chocolate, more roastiness than in aroma. Beer is full bodied, creamy with medium carbonation. Nice light warming from alcohol. Very very good beer.

Barwa: głęboko rubinowa, bardzo ciemna, prawie nie przejrzysta nawet pod światło. Aromat: dominują akcenty czekoladowo - kawowe, lekko owocowe. Zdecydowanie przyjemny, choć początkowo wyczuwalna zdecydowana nuta alkoholowa. Smak: raczej słodki niż wytrawny, bowiem piwo jest dość młode. Akcenty czekolady i kawy mokka. W przeszłości prawie każdy browar warzył portera, obecnie występuje on znacznie rzadziej. Tym bardziej trzeba go docenić.
