Beer from one of those breweries you are amazed that they still exist. Small glass, gift from the lady in the brewery tap. Orange color, hazy. Strong malty barnyard aroma with caramel, in fact it stinks out of your glass. Yeasty bitter caramelly flavor with chichory. Typical Franconian farmhouse beer, it tastes and smells like a farm!

Herb-malziger, angenem karamelliger und wenig süßer Antrunk, ausbalanciert. Karamellig und deutlich getreidig im Mittelteil, trotz wenig CO2 ist das Bier nicht schal, dafür aber höchstsüffig. Noch karamelliger im Abgang, die malzige Würzigkeit steigt, gleichzeitig tut sich eine angenehme Röstigkeit auf. Voll, sehr aromatisch, hopfenbetont. Aromatisches und süffiges Bier, sehr harmonisch. Könnte ich den ganzen Abend trinken! 13/12/12/12//12

(draught at the brewpub) Hazy, amber colour with a short and tanned foamy head. Toasty caramel-malty aroma with herbal and subtle citric hops, accompanied by a whiff of barnyard in the positive sense. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a pleasantly well-carbonated mouthfeel. Toast-malty taste with caramel, herbal accents and a subtle fruity note; moderately dry cara-malty and herbal hoppy finish. Pleasant and rural dark Kellerbier. 17.IV.11

Clear medium orange amber color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toffee notes, light to moderate hoppy, citrus notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090705]

Ceramic mug. Nice thin head. Darkish, with some herbal notes. Tannic notes of breadcrust, rich grains, quite chewy and finishing acidity. Almost a charcoally note in the finish.

Draft @ brewpub. Brown beer, one krug had a head, the other one didn’t. Aroma is cola, licorice. Flat palate. Rustic flavors include anise, licorice. No toast or roast in spite of the dark malt. Interesting brew.

Draught@brewpub.. Deep goldeny aamber colour, big foamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some hops as well as some earthy/cellary notes as well. Very refreshing and pleasant. Thanks to the Old Man brewer for opening the pub up for a foreign visitor. The brewery was impressive in a cave. Seemed like no electricity anywhere in the brewing equipment... A must see if you’re somewhere around the place!
