Bottle to tulip Anise, leather, cigarette smoke, motor oil, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. After smelling this for fifteen minutes, Iím getting a alcohol now but no maple. Deep black, a touch of red thin tan head. Malty sweet, light caramel, at the beginning, then coffee, dark chocolate, black pepper, and red bell pepper. Very smooth, oily and slick. This is awesome, I spent a long time smelling it and minutes drinking it. Wow!

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with small tan head, very little carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, mild bourbon, roasted coffee. Taste is smooth, really coats the mouth. Like oil slick coating. Taste is surprinshly mild at first, even light bodied. Maple is there, but mellow now at 2 yrs old. Really yummy, in my belly, only wish I had 2 bottles.

Bottle thanks to Beechner224. Bottled October 2011 Pours a dark black with a nice brown head. Aroma is a little molasses and chocolate. Donít get a lot of bourbon. Maybe because it is 2 years old. The taste is awesome. A lot better as it warms up. At first you get more chocolate with some molasses. As it warms up you get more molasses. Starts coating your mouth. Itís great. Would loved to have compared it to a fresh bottle. But overall this beer is just phenomenal.

Bottle share thanks to beechner224 and his bro the whael slayer. Pours a very deep dark nearly black color with light brown head. Roasty, lightly bourbony, maple, malty, grainy aroma. Smooth chocolatey malt, roasty and coffee, bourbony, and syrup. Very thick and viscous, some light graininess in the mouthfeel. Very tasty.

Huge, huge thanks to KMack for the bottle! 750ml bottle from the October, 2011 bottling. Pours a pitch black body with a finger of dark mocha foam which settles slowly into some nice edging. Great lacing and retention. Looks like all the other Founder stouts. The nose is coffee beans, roasted malt, anise, lots of chocolate and a faint maple coated sweetness on the end. It smells really great, although maybe a bit jumbled together as the anise/roast/bitter beans clashes a bit with the chocolate/maple sweetness. Taste starts off with faded coffee beans, a sort of mash up of the normal coffee taste but with a slight vegetal and bitter like quality. Not bad per se, just obvious that itís lost itís luster. Next comes light roasted malts and anise and a very sweet combination of chocolate and maple sweetness. Itís not exactly in your face and it doesnít scream maple, but it is much sweeter then the other Founder stouts. Lots of anise on the finish. Maple syrup bourbon barrels...well I see the maple, but the bourbon and barrel elements tend to be nonexistent. Not getting any butterscotch, oak, or vanilla that I would associate with most BA beers, but thatís ok because honestly this tastes really damn good. Rich and creamy mouth feel. Alcohol is slightly warming but nice. Overall, this lives up to the hype for me. Iím sure bottle variation comes into play since itís past the two year mark, but this bottle is holding up phenomenally well. Very on par with aged KBS where the barrel and coffee tend to fizzle out but the chocolate and roast take center stage. Only thereís an extra maple sweetness, mmmmm.

Well, here it goes. Thanks to woodchopper! Thanks to my wife, for letting me open this with her! A: pours black with brown hedging. A gaudy mocha top slowly falls to a solid sheet of lighter mocha. Spotty lace. Pretty beer. S: Getting the bourbon, not getting the maple so much. Smells malty, dark, with hints of coffee. Smells really good....After a few more minutes, the maple starts to come out and reminds me of maple butternut ice cream. T: Dark chocolate ice cream, hints of sweet bourbon, flecks of toffee, coffee and not really much maple. Then when I swallow on the subsequent exhalation, I get a really nice rush of the maple. There is just the slightest heat from the alcohol here. M: Viciously sticky with a full feel and just perfect carbonation. The finish is lasting and combative with my preferred reservation to savor this beer rather than gulp it. This beer has perfectly matched feel for the profile. Only other beer with such a profoundly matched mouthfeel Iíve had is Hunahpuís. O: Well, this beer is really really good. The maple tones are subdued with initial tastes, and then initiate their subtle bellicose intents to compel my idle hands to guzzle. Good shit, I expected it to be sweeter, and was pleasantly surprised. I am grateful to have been able to try this one. I would love to have again, and wouldnít pass up an opportunity. A perfect dessert for this accompaniment would be a hot fudge sundae with peanut brittle bits mixed into a rich, high quality vanilla bean ice cream...After which I would probably be sick to my stomach from such a degree of extravagance. 750 mL bottle. Then pour is an incredible black. The head is a dark khaki, almost brown. The lace is incredibly thick and clingy. The aroma maple, chocolate, a sweet roastyness and a loving coffee finish to it. I love the licorice kick to it, and the maple just holds it together in bliss. The flavor. Wow. Starts off sweet and chocolatey, slowly moving through to a coffee like nice never tasted before. It's a brilliant, seamless transition they masks all hints of booze. The maple provides an amazing flavor to tie these together. The mouth feel just coats thickly and doesn't let up. The finish is definitely coffee on the lingering aftertaste, but the maple is amazingly influential. It provides just an incredible balance that I've yet to find.
