Pours a dark black. Has a strong coffee aroma. A very balance taste of chocolate and coffee. A thick and heavy body with lingering coffee taste.

This is the second time I've had this beer and it is far better than the first time. Robust in chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and a nice sweet maple syrup flavor. A perfect cold weather beer which isn't overly sweet or rich, but a perfect amount of decadence.

Pours black with a lace of tan head. Aroma is very malty roasted like. Can smell some alcohol. Taste is very very sweet. Roasted bitter flavors come later. Some chocolate and some vanillaness (maybe thatís the barrel?) Donít get the coffee despite searching. Would be cloying if it the roasted flavors didnít kick in. No taste of alcohol. Really really rich. Medium/thin thick and light carb.

6 oz pour from Burg and Barrel, Overland Park, KS. The nose is not what I was expecting. From other descriptions, I figured a big boozy nose on this, but what I got was much more subdued. More like roasty chocolate milk, what I would expect to get from a milk stout with chocolate added. No coffee whatsoever, but that might just be the age on the beer. But if I had it blindly, I wouldnít guess there was any coffee in this. Also, the glass had a significant smell to it, possibly detracting from the aroma. The appearance was a deep deep, brown, not pitch black, caramel highlights along the periphery. Thin, almost nonexistent, khaki head. Taste is where this beer truly shined for me. So much flavor. VANILLA. Definitely some bourbon. Slight maple. Slight coconut. Roasty chocolate. Again, no coffee at all. And no bitterness whatsoever. But vanilla all over the place for me. I donít know if thereís vanilla added here, or if itís from the the oak, but damn, so much vanilla. Which is just fine with me. The beerís a medium mouthfeel, maybe fuller side of medium, but definitely not heavy. So smooth. Dangerously smooth. The oak is mostly present in the finish, as it dries out the mouth. Overall, this is the best beer Iíve had, and am fortunate to have gotten a taste. If the nose was a little better, this probably would have been a damn near perfect beer. But again, there are several factors that could have taken away from the aroma. Beware of the alcohol. Itís so well hidden even with the bourbon highlights. I got a slight warming once it was all the way down, but nothing in the nose or mouth. You could get in trouble if you had more than a little. If youíre able to find some of this, and itís not super overpriced, donít hesitate.

Noticed on Instagram that Al's of Hampden tapped a keg at one o'clock on Tuesday. Left work early to drive 45 minutes to arrive at 4:50. Keg was kicked at 5:10. I was fortunate to get a 4oz pour of this black gold. Very little head and no lace. Smelled of bourbon and whiskey, coffee, roasted malts and vanilla. Sweet tasting like Canadian whiskey, coffee, vanilla, faint maple syrup and nice hops lingering in the finish. Worth the trip. It was the awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Huge treat off tap. Smells like maple syrup and bourbon. Very multi layered with flavors of maple, bourbon, chocolate, coffee and a touch of vanilla. Silky smooth all the way through and it leaves a nice coating in its wake. If youíre fortunate enough to come across this hidden gem definitely take advantage.

2011 Bottle. Had a strong peppery smell from the coffee. Still kept its very deep flavor profile, extremely smooth and overall delicious. Although some say the 2011 bottle is going bad, everyone at the tasting agreed it was still an exceptional beer.

Enjoyed on tap at Burnhearts Mitten Fest in Mitten Fest in Milwaukee, WI. I have been waitin years to have this one. Appearance is pitch black with light tan head. Aroma of maple syrup, chocolate, espresso, can't be messed with. Taste can't be messed with, FTW. Seriously it's awesome, notes of chocolate, syrup, coffee, and dudes. Soo much dudes, all the dudes, and it's unreal, dudes. Caked my cell phone in sugar, unreal, may the force be with you, Jeremy has spoken.

On tap at Founders. Great beer and something I wish I could have on a regular basis. Aroma is strong bourbon with light maple sweetness. Pours a clear, dark black. Taste is heavy dark chocolate with bourbon booziness, finishing with long bitter chocolate, light coffee and some maple coming out at the end. The maple was more on the finish for me than being pronounced up-front. Very creamy and smooth with a great balance of the flavors. I really like Founders barrel-aged beers, and thought this had some consistencies with Backwoods Bastard in terms of bourbon flavor - different beers but similarities on the aging flavor. Great beer.

Draft at Mahoneyspub. Pours black with small cream colored head and some lacing. Nose is big bourbon and a little maple. Maple through more in the taste. Very creamy mouthfeel. Delicious.
