On tap at the taproom. A beer that lives up to its rep! Pours a thick black with a smoky aroma. Flavors of oak, roasted malts, vanilla, smoke and sweetness.

Bottle: Oily, thick black pour; glugs out of the glass slowly with a deep mocha foam that foams up & bubbles nicely on top. Aroma of rich fudge, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, mild maple syrup, a touch of mint, some woody tannins, dry coffee beans, really no bourbon character but a light but of roast flows throughout. Taste has a very nice chocolate element, tastes like biting into an elegant, rich chocolate candy bar. Bittersweet, milky with a light roasted element. Very light maple, mint, & a nice, burnt brown sugar character in the finish. Dark chocolate candy bar finish with a slight touch of burnt espresso; boozy & woody warmth for robustness. Thick, creamy body. A great stout.

"A victim or beneficiary of the hype machine? Thanks to Thomassova for this gem that was eagerly shared. I am unapologetically a fan Of coffee stouts. Same for barreled stouts. Kbs is a favorite as is founders, so I went into this with very high expectations. It was in many ways more similar to kbs than I thought it would be. The coffee was still by far the main player, with the bourbon and maple playing backup quite nicely. The alcohol doesn’t show much. The main difference between the two is maaaaybe a slightly heftier feel to the CBS, but definitely splitting hairs. Deeelicious in every way. Less maple than better half, but this is also a bigger beer. I need to find out what coffee they use. Great brew!!"

2014-08-15. Black body with a small brown head that fades. 3++ Aroma is sort of earthy and smokey. Flavour has rich sweet dark malt base, light smokey earthy notes. Smooth medium to full bodied palate, light carbonation. Rich but not entirely to my tastes, and not really what I was hoping for unfortunately. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

Bottle at first "Er klopt iemand op de deur" tasting aka EBT3. Thx to everyone for sharing today’s beers! APPEARANCE: black beer, small unstable beige head. NOSE: bourbon, alcohol, vanilla, some liquorice? TASTE: liquorice, mocha, oke, but probably already little over the top?

750 ml. bottle sampled @ "Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving I. Thanks to Yarric! 2009? Vintage. Really improved & opened up as it warmed up. Spare, rocky, dark mocha head. Unclear body. Dark black colour. Liquorish nose upfront + anis, thick leading into maple, molasses & roast. Taste is black liquorish + anis, light charred oak, bitter roast, leading into maple syrup, prune, coffee, molasses & thick vanilla sweetness, herbs. Nothing at all like I expected & not top of everything right now but a very unique, fascinating & very nice beer all the same. Full & creamy maple body, soft carbonation, heavy sweetness in the back, heavy roast upfront.

Bottle during RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room thanks to Adam. Black with tan head. Aromas of light bourbon, chocolate, caramel. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, bourbon. Full body with a dry finish. Never got to try this fresh but it’s not bad for a three year aged bottle.

I bet I would have really liked this were it fresh (well, as fresh as pre-aged beer gets). I never did run into it then. It is deep black w/ a small head of mixed bubbles. It has a big barrel aged nose w/ lots of vanilla and a whallop of alcohholic heat. There’s lots of coffee and chocolate and maybe a bit too far on the sweet side but the flavors work well together at least. It has low carbonation and is generally pretty heavy on the palate. Definitely a worthwhile beer to try even though it’s a bit on the old side by this point.

Shared at RBSG 2014. Thanks Adam. Nose is like marshmallow and a touch of booze. Pour is pitch black. Taste is an amazing coffee and chocolate blend with a wonderful booziness. Phenomenal.
