3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gift from SJ. I like American strongs and this brew does nothing to taint that. Well balance of, bread, coffee, chocolate, nut and sugar. Body was nice and full. I liked it.

Alrighty, here we go.
Brown with a solid slow transient tan foam sheet. Smells like strait up hazelnut flavoring syrup creamer - like I put in my cheap coffee at work when somebody else has brought it in. A little vanilla and graham cracker crust; expecting bottled beetus. Flavor is hazelnuts, some vanilla pudding a bit of coffee and bread. Pretty much exactly as described on the label - cool. Not liquid Beetus, as I feared. this is all readied on the carriage of medium body, low carb and an off dry finish. wish the dentists wife were here, she’d dig it. The 2.5 for overall is simply because it’s not my cup of tea, but merit for such a strikingly precise attempt and execution for a beer.

In doing a cellar cleaning I came across this and decided with an upcoming trip to Grand Rapids planned that I would reacquaint myself with Founders. This is a home run that has held up well so far. If you are still sitting on any and have yet to try it then wait no longer.
Aroma / Appearance - A carbonated chestnut body is bubbly and lively. Ivory head survives the percolation. Chocolate pudding, tea, and the feel of a dense brown ale give this a strong bite that is atypical of your usual session ale (as to be expected given the high gravity).
Flavor / Palate - The malty mouthfeel is big and chewy. Like iced pudding pops the flavors melt on the tongue. The coffee undertones give it the body to survive and stand out. An "imperial brown" has me looking forward to the next opportunity I get to sample Founders’ great line up.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Barcade, Brooklyn tap ($8): Pours murky brown with a tan head. Aroma is a whole lot of hazelnut coffee, vanilla, sugar, and cookies... Taste is straight coffee grounds. Tastes like burnt coffee ice cream. That is not a bad thing. This might be too sweet to have more than a little glass of, like I did.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 6, 2013 Poured from bottle acquired at Beverage World. Pours a dark brown/cola color with a small white head, almost creamy looking. The aroma is immediately hazelnut, one of the clearest smells of it I have had with a beer. Taste is sweet, light bitter finish, a little hint of coffee at the end. I am not a hazelnut fan, so this is too much and too sweet for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A: Deep Brown/Amber Hue, Passes Minimal Light, Thin White Head Ring, Some Lacing
S: Hazelnut, Mild Coffee, Mild Nutty
T: Sweet Hazelnut, Coffee, Mild Nutty
M: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Semi Sweet, Mildly Bitter
Overall, its a nice brown ale but the hazelnut seems a little artificial and too sweet.

I had this back in March on my bachelor party and was a bottle share from my buddy - distinct hazelnut and cocoa comes through on the nose with a wee amount of coffee, too. Strong lasting nuttiness and caramel on the body and the back of the palate. There’s an odd mouthfeel that I couldn’t place but for what I got, it was unique and tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
75cl bottle, DSG and jsquire tasting. Many thanks to jsquire! It pours a dark brown colour with a medium tan head. Aroma is sweet with nuts and coffee mostly. Taste is all about the hazelnuts, quite sweet. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Very good for what it is, but a sugar bomb nonetheless.

Dsg tasting at Chris’s. Aroma is intense biscotti hazelnut slightly stale musty. Clear red colour with an off white head. Flavour is huge vanilla biscuit some vodka. Reminds me of a southern tier beer.
