Pours unclear chestnut amber brown with a nice off white head. The aroma is pours hazelnut syrup sweetness and nuttiness. The flavor of hazelnut syrup as well, earthy and nuttiness, not sweet really at all. This is all on a clean body, not thick but smooth.

750ml sought done by Anndiesel. Quite attractive unfiltered thick brown color, massive steady off-white head. Pronounced coffee aroma, Big coffee tastes, coupled by some nutty caramel tones. Mellow, subdued carbonation really accentuates the creamy richness. This is really a perfect Imperial Brown Ale, with a great coffee balance. A masterpiece beer, incredible.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle sample from Greg, thanks! Pour is a clear dark red copper, with a bit of white head, and no lacing. Aroma is iced coffee with TONS of nuts. Not much else there. Taste is very much the same, though the coffee bean notes fade to the background and are overtaken with more nuttyness. A fair bit of chalk on the finish. Just OK.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour out of 750 mL bottle is dark reddish almost brown with thin white head, aroma has notes of big nutty notes with peanut, hazelnut, coffee grounds, touch of caramel, toffee, hints of dark chocolate as well, but the hazelnut coffee dominates. Taste is very sweet, with lots of sweet cream, hazelnut, peanut, some chocolate, coffee notes, more sweet cream, finishing fairly sweet with some more coffee and hazelnut cream notes. Tastes like the hazelnut creamer you would put into coffee, with some cocoa notes.

Pours a dark brown with minimal white head. aroma resembles a cup of hazelnut coffee. taste is identical to a cup of black hazelnut coffee. taste in my head resembled more of a porter or stout, left me wanting more body.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 22, 2012 Bottle poured in snifter. Nice dark brown pour with a light frothy head that fades quickly. Lots of lacing on the glass. Huge hazelnut coffee aroma but not much else. Taste is slightly sweet, lots of nutty and coffee character. Very little bitterness or hops. Very smooth finish with no alcohol burn. The hazelnut coffee taste lingers awhile. Fairly thin body makes it very easy to drink. Slightly disappointed by this beer considering the price and the hype. It’s still a very good beer and its exactly what it says it is. But I would take any of the Founder’s stouts before this one

A bit of a fake Hazelnut flavor, but otherwise this a a very tasty coffee stout combined with a strong ale. Creamy, yet fizzy. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2012 Bottle. Dark brown with a medium cream-colored head. Aroma is sweet and dominated by coffee and hazelnuts, with some caramel. It’s like walking into a coffee shop, I can smell this for hours. Taste is more of the same, with a little chocolate as well. Finish is sweet with some roasted bitterness. Full bodied, very creamy. Great great stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pouts slightly cloudy dark brown with thin off-white head. Aroma hazelnut. Taste caramel malts with strong hazelnut, slight coffee. Finish with a nutty dryness and a little bitter. Palate thick for a brown ale, slightly powdery with a little alcohol burn.
Odd but good.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours out dark brown with a small white head, light lacing. Aroma is of crazy, intense hazelnut coffee, vanilla, light nuttiness, earth and some lingering alcohol. Taste is intense hazelnut much like the flavor, notes of some earthy soil, nuts, vanilla, caramel, light lingering sweetness, and maybe a light touch of alcohol, but overall it is rather well hidden.
