COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Frangelic Mountain Brown is the quintessential taproom “one-off” beer: Founders’ brewers created the Mountain Brown series for their taproom in Grand Rapids in 2007. Frangelic Mountain Brown is the 16th iteration in the series of popular brown ales—and it likely won’t be the last. The singular characteristic of this beer comes from the use of hazelnut coffees in the brewing process. The beer has distinct aromatics with sweet and nutty flavors beautifully balanced. Founders is known for its beers made with coffee (i.e., the Breakfast Stout series), but this is both the brewery’s first brown ale and its first beer brewed with hazelnut coffees to be bottled. It clocks in at 9% ABV.

Bottle at "En liten provning hos larsniclas" hosted by Alex ( _angst_). Dark brown beer with a decent beige head. Chocolate aroma, cocoa powder, nutty, creamy, fruity notes. Chocolate flavor, caramel, biscuits, dark chocolate, roasted, cocoa powder, raisins, vanilla, milky, hay notes.

This beer stunned me. Sat on this for a year after I traded for it. Kind of forgot I had it as it was in the back of my beer cabinet. I didn’t have high hopes going in but I was floored by how good this was. Nutella caramel brownie with a drying bitter cocoa finish. It is 100° in San Antonio right now but this beer makes it feel like it’s 65 in the smoky mountains. Best brown ale I have ever had.

750 ml bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of coffee, hazelnuts and caramel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel and hazelnut coffee with a smooth lingering hazelnut coffee finish.

Poured from a bomber aged 2 years into a Founders pint glass brown with a touch of auburn hue. Plenty of tan head that laced down the glass nicely. Aroma is incredible hazelnut sweetness some coffee Flavor of hazelnut brownie comes first to mind. Nutty molasses are balanced here with the coffee. A seriously better than expected brew I happily returned to after 2 years.

750ml brown bottle - bottleshare at Ferris’. Brown pour, hazy. Tan ring of head. Aroma has lots of nuts, seemed more peanut than hazelnut ... peanut buttery. Taste has chocolate and nuts. Some bitterness in the end, choolate and nut finish. Really liked this.

Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Lots of hazelnut and nuts. Cloudy brown with a thin brown head. Lots of nut and some nice malts. Light bitterness, really nice finish.

Had this when it first came out then bought another bottle to age. The first go was good. Let’s check this one out Aroma is very nutty. Caramel. Light roast coffee. A little sweet chocolate note. Unique and complex. Looks amazing for a brown ale. Definitely brown but darker. Hazy. Nice creama colored head. Taste is like the smell. Very complex. Nutty. Chocolate. Not roasty like a stout or porter though. Yeah light roast coffee. Nutty. A little caramel. Palate is smooth. Flavorful. Amazing. A little boozy on the finish. Overall this is an amazing beer. And I hate brown ales. If you’re taking bets I think this will be the mystery special release that founders is announcing later this year.

Bottle shared by a good friend. Hazy light brownish reddish amber. Fair off-white wispy creamy head. Bigger end of light body. Everything about this is Frangelico, the hazelnut liqueur; Both aroma and flavor; Strikingly so. Hazelnut. Coffee. Sweet caramel. Lighter roastiness. Pretty sweet but not overly. Mild bitterness. Alcohol perfectly hidden. Sticky. Some age has probably mellowed this in a beneficial way I think. Beers on this sort usually comes across sloppy or heavy handed or off or unpleasant in some way and this is handled perfectly.

Wow. This beer. Dark, burnt orange in color with a halfly opaque body, this beer really drags you down into its power once it hits your nose. The aroma reminds me of something burned, a touch of peppers (which I’m sure isn’t actually there), light coffee, and a heavy, protein-thick nut sweetness. I’d drink this beer with my nose if there was no danger of drowning. The flavor is a replica of the aroma, but some of the roasted flavors come out more. It’s like a complex, peaty old ale with a touch of fruit, mixed with an English nut brown ale. I love the level of alcohol, in comparison, to the bold flavors in this. It’s unique, powerful, but sessionable enough that I could chug this beer.

Bottle gift from my cousin Joca bought in Brooklyn about three years ago. Dark brown with ring. Strong hazelnut aroma with coffee and chocolate. Nutty hazelnut chocolate nutella medium bitter coffee roasted finish with lingering hazelnut coffee . Medium full body.
