COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

On tap at Pracna pours a dark mahogany amber with a large off-white head. Nice hop presence in the nose, with some caramel malts. Taste has a mellow caramel malt with some soft vanilla and soft bourbon presence with a dragging bitter resinous pine hop on the finish. Overall drinkable for a barrel aged Barly Wine with a solid hop presence.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Beautiful hazy red orange, thick, dense light golden crown that retains magnificently. Sweet breadcrusts, brown sugar, sponge toffee, light yeast, lightly floral, some sherry qualities. Densely chewy, rich and lovely. To me, an archetypical American style BW.

Golden brown beer with white head that doesnít stay around like the common one night stand. Smells like a solid barley wine sweet but bready just like the taste, finishing the bottle you canít help but smile and think about all the other barley wines youíve had and think why canít they be this good perfect

Tap at butcher and the boar. Sweet orange and hop aromas. Tastes like intense honey, hops and a strong orange bourbon finish.

Smells very sweet and has the typical barley wine type resiny degraded hop flavor. Very smooth. I would imagine time would do this one even more benefit. Tastes sweet, barrel aging not super present but can detect a little oak flavor on the finish.

Bottle generously picked up for me (and paid for) by my friend Nate. Pours a bright copper with a thicker than expected yellowish beige head. Nose is huge vanilla, wood, and maple. Some bourbon-like notes. Smells sweet, slightly spicy, but Christ this is sweet and boozy.

Sort of a light burnt orange color. Frothy off-white head. Malty, hoppy, fruity, citrus, caramel, bourbon, Full body, sticky. The middle is interrupted by a big spicy bite of alcohol that really threw me and was tough for me to get passed and kind of ruined the beer for me.

Bottle; Pour is fairly clear mahogany in color with a fine bubbled one inch white head in this glass. It has a very nice appearance, though retention is on the average side, with sticky and spotty lacing present. The nose is hop forward; some pine, light citrus, light earthen notes, caramel and toffee, and perhaps a bit of vanilla. I thought this one could have used a heavier barrel treatment than it provides, and that aspect reveals itself quickly for me. Itís initial bitter, with a bit of cream, moving to the pine and grapefruit, toffee, caramel, and into the barrel treatment : vanilla and light earth, heavy on the sweetness (maple syrup) - but lacking a bit of heft. Which is surprising, this being a 15%er - anyway - I really enjoyed this one - but I think they could have done more with this.

Definite yeasty nose with complex esthers found in other high rated barleywines. Very sweet with bitterness not over pronounced. The complexity was in the nose, not in the flavor profile. Not much to say about an overpriced barleywine.

Shared bottle. Very high ABV cannot be hidden. While Iím not hit in the face with the full 15%, this is, nonetheless, a bit too boozy for me. The high ABV comes in a very flavorful brew, which suggests various fruits and fruit brandy. Excellent hop/malt balance. M: Rather full bodied, with excellent (low) carbonation.
