3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2012 Bottle poured a golden orange color with a coating of light tan head. Aroma has sticky sweet malt, aged hops, caramel, sweet bourbon, wet oak, light fruit, vanilla touches, and a nip of maple only because I knew to look for it. Mouth feel is surprisingly heavy with a coating thickness and light carbonation for such a large beer. Flavor confirms that thereís plenty of sweetness, caramel, sweet bourbon, pine hops, wet oak, light maple, vanilla, toffee, dark fruit, and a bit of heat on the finish. Leans towards the English side of the style and it does have a fair bit of hops just not bright punchy ones. Quite a thick beast of a beer with sugars coming at you from all directions. The barrels lend plenty of bourbon but there is vanilla and some oak as well. The beer itself is quite complex but there is no brightness or punchy notes that will make this evolve any further. It is a nice beer but for the price tag on it it needs to be stellar. Drink this one now they have done all the work for you here.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
November 19, 2012 on tap at pizza luce. Clear orangish brown pour with minimal head and spotty lacing. Sweet caramel, bourbon, fruity and some hops in aroma. Taste starts sweet, then you get hit with the bourbon, moves back to sweetness, then spicy and finishes bitter with some mild alcohol. Smooth and medium to full bodied.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at Pizza Luce, St. Paul. Sweet aroma with no discernible bourbon ; fruity, boozy. Hazy dark red with thin tan head and excellent lace. Really strong alcohol initial mouthfeel. Quite boozy. Caramelly sweet goodness. Could use some age but is outstanding. Amazing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at FoBAB VIP. Pours a deep bronze with an off-white head. Nose is kind of odd. Caramel and resin, a bit toasty and sweet. Booze. The hops are present but seem lacking. The aging has kind of thinned this out overall, both in the nose and taste. Quite warming and boozy. Moderate sweetness and note oak coming through. I donít get a ton of the maple. Itís okay but it just really doesnít have a ton going on. Light spice bitter alcohol and clean overall. Okay.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the 15th anniversary party. Lots of hop in the aroma. Very hop forward in the flavor, but once it warms a bit I got caramel, fruit, sweet, malty, complex.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Founders. Pours a clear amber-orange color with a small bubbly head that lingers a bit. Musky and complex aroma. Getting caramel, bourbon, maple, pine, oranges, and a complex spiciness. Taste is very intense, reminds me of devil dancer. Moderately sweet but the strong bitterness balances. Tons of complex malts and hops come through including everything in the aroma. Full syrupy mouthfeel that is sticky and chewy. Really love this beer. Want to get a couple bottles to age.

The body is a little thinner than I woudl like. This one really doesnít have much barrel notes. It is a hoppy DIPA/Barleywine.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Founders 15th Anniversary on draft. Huge beer. Boozy until it warms up a little. Slightly hazy orangey copper. Fruity aroma, heavy citrus hops with some alcohol on the nose and a little bourbon lingering in the background. Flavor begins hoppy, has a bit of malt sweetness mid-palate, then hop bitterness and a ling dry finish take over. Would love to have bottles of this to age. It needs a little mellowing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at founders 15th anniversary party. Orange pour that is thick and hazy. Trace amounts of white Lacey foam on top. Scent is completely citrus, orange and lemon. Taste is significantly malty. Bitter and tingly at first, then smooth creamy citrus. That then changes to starchy, scotchy malt. Finish is ful of fire, and scotchy. Also notably lighter than I expected. Pretty good badly wine because of the big hop content.
