COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. Thanks Jetson! Pours a clear dark orange appearance with a bubbly, cream colored head that dissipates pretty quickly. Herbal, floral, light vanilla/caramel, lightly boozy aroma that’s not overly assertive. A bit syrupy, tingly/lightly alcoholic, chewy green hoppy, kind of goopy, rich caramel malty flavor. Honestly, i thought this would be better aged in a bourbon barrel, but fuck it already was. Those notes are pretty weak. Pretty smooth for 15% abv but not a whole lot of flavor going on.

Aroma is what I expect from a barley wine. definitely smells boozy. Color is very nice but I almost thought it would have been a bit hazier. Taste is very strong alcohol but lots of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, toffee. Nice sting of hops too. Rich and hot, but ultimately very good.

Draft at Capone’s Black Friday event. Poured a clear orange body with an average sized super light beige foamy head. Aroma has some alcohol up front, maple, molasses, toffee, celelry, green veggies, old vanilla extract. The body is thinner than I was expecting with a lighter mouthfeel and soft carbonation that almost made it delicate except for the big dose of alcohol heat. The flavor really starts to show it’s complexity with warmth. Notes of molasses, amamretto, old maple syrup, dry wood, dry vanilla candy, old caramel, touch of English toffee. Good stuff to sit down and really sip slowly.

Appearance: Pours a bright orange amber with a soapy ring of white and a thin film.

Aroma: Peach, alcohol, dark sugar. Hops.

Taste: Toasted malt. Burnt sugar, a little fruity. Lingering hop bitterness and woodiness.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, a little sticky with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A damn fine barleywine indeed. Great barrel presence without coming off boozy.

Amber brown pour, thin head and lace. Way too much heat and booze in this one for me. I know its 15 percent but ut doesnt have to taste like 25. Hot grains, wood, pine and whiskey were the tasting notes. Not a fan.

bottle to glass then to shot glass, was not impressed with this, i has hoping founders was going to go back to nemesis 2010 considering thats one of the best beers they ever did. the aroma was of strong boozey malt, very sweet smells. palate is slick and heavy which is good for this style . overall not impressed and glad that this was from my buddies bottle because i wont be purchasing mine now.

Bottle shared by rschnake - Pours clear amber with a thin ring of bubbly off-white head. Nose is boozy and sharp, with herbal hops and a big malty oakiness. Taste is a bit fruity--big and malty with some herbal hoppiness. A bit thinnish with a slick body and minimal carbonation. A bit too boozy and sweet.

Aroma of typical barleywine notes: floral hop, brown sugar, and slight maple. Taste is lots of booze with maple vanilla notes. Very strong
