COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

Big thanks to JPDurden24 for sharing this at the Annual Black Friday tasting, thanks Jon. Also a big thanks goes to the generous AshleySchaefer for trading me some Bolt Cutter in my time of need. I owe you Malcolm. So this big high shouldered 750mL bottle pours with a deep clear copper body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up pretty bold notes tossing up sugar candied pine resin that rolls into more of a citrus sensation of orange flavored hard candy and then a resiny grassiness at the end of the draw. The taste is similar with oddly sugary pine sap and then malt sweetened citrus hoppiness. This has loads of both flavor and bitter resiny hoppiness from front to back. Nice smooth bold rich stuff.

Hazy copper orange pour, thin off white head and very light lacing .... aroma of caramel malts, oranges, boozy, maple syrup and light vanilla .... taste is very bitter and citrusy orange, maple syrup, light dry oak, caramel malts, light vanilla, rindy bitter hops and boozy .... finish is bitter warming and booxy .... definitely a brew to age .... syrupy slick mouthfeel .... complex and tasty, but definitely need to age and try again down the road

Pours a dark brown amber with a little head that quickly dissipates. Nose is of candy peanuts peanut brittle liquory booze. Starts sweet and boost nutty in the middle and sweet coffee bitterness left in the mouth and tongue. Very nice grape fruity hook character balances and hides the 18% very well. Overall very good beer felt lucky when I found it after reading about it. Would drink again imagine it would become magical in time.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear vibrant auburn color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, caramel, citrus hops and a mild nutty note. The taste is toffee, treacle, citrus hops and raisins. Medium bodied and a bit boozy. Nice beer.

Bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Clear bronze orange pour, quite viscous, very retentive off white head. Aromas are canned and caramelized pineapple, some oak tannins, bourbon, marshmallow, maraschino cherries, vanillin. Flavors: tons of caramel, crystal malt, pineapple, hoppy, apple, butter, some honey. Bitter, floral hop, sticky sweet. Alcohol is nicely hidden, but this what I hate on east coast DIPAs, sticky sweet, bitter, canned pineapple. The balance of good American barley wines are still missing. Sticky, low carbonation and warming.

Tap. Pour is deep clear amber with a small white head. Aroma and flavor are caramel malt with faint hop notes and light brandy qualities. A little spicy and hides 15% very well. Solid

On the Second Day of Christmas the beer gods gave to me... Nemesis 2010 anyone? A hopped up bwine that reminds me how sad I was when I drank my last 2010 Nemesis. Pours a nice burnt orange color with a gentle white soapy head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, earthiness, and alcohol. Has a nice fluffy sweet start that gives a great feel before the hop hit. Nice sweet citrus notes and stickiness on the finish. Founders please make this a more regular brew ala breakfast stout.

Pours deep amber, smell of citrus and barley. Tastes very much like a standard barley wine, but no barrel at all. A nice beer but a bit over hyped.

Bomber. Just avarage! Rich amber beer with a light cream colored head. Light bourbon and light malt aroma. light bourbon and light malt flavor with some light earthiness. Medium bodied. Light bourbon and caramel lingers with some earthiness. Swing and a miss on this one.
