COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

Golden brown beer with white head that doesnít stay around like the common one night stand. Smells like a solid barley wine sweet but bready just like the taste, finishing the bottle you canít help but smile and think about all the other barley wines youíve had and think why canít they be this good perfect

Sweet vanilla, malt, and grape aromas. Light bone colored head and thick orange brown body. Malty, sweet vanilla and some berry flavors. Smooth on the palate.

Pours a really clean amber with about a 3/4 inch tan head that hangs on for a minute with a smodge of lacing. Has a very traditional barley wine smell. Some spicy floral with a malty smell and definitely Oak. For a 15% its very smooth. You really dont feel rhe high abv as much on the tongue as you do just the warmth going down. Its barely malt and vanilla up front with that spice on the back. Ive had it on the shelf for 2 years and id have no doubt it could stand up to another 2 or 3. Top flight barley wwine

Bottle. Cloudy copper. The 15% abv is very mellow which is probably due to the 2+ years of age. A little sweet bourbon shows up throughout the taste with maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar as well. This is a top-notch malt forward barley wine with a full body and a long finish. Really awesome overall, glad I got to try this one.

Bottle. Dark amber with little head. Aroma is caramel, dark fruit and brown sugar. Taste follows and adds some burnt sugar and maple syrup. Rich, thick and sticky mouthfeel. Awesome.

@ SBWF 2014: riktigt trevlig maltig doft. Smaken kommer som en bomb av malt, frukt, alkohol och rostat kaffe. Riktigt gott. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"Being prepared for this NOT being a 100% barrel aged beer was a big help. Like with Stoic, I think this is "only" a 97th percentile beer, and not a 100, because of expectations. People expecting a CBS like barreling or a bourbon bomb will be disappointed...unless they appreciate that while the beer might not be what they were expecting, itís a GREAT barleywine. For 15%, pretty mellow. Still a big beer, with ample sweetness, but incredible balance between the caramel and oak, good dose of citric hops, and slight vanilla, bourbon, and maple sweetness relegated to the background. Aroma and flavor are 9+. Couldnít keep my nose out of the glass, and though Iím sure itís a good thing I shared, I could have drank this 750 all by myself, and loved every sip. In the top 2% of newbies in 2012. Thanks Greg, aka ggrumet, for the trade. Ironically, same score as the beer I sent you for it! "

Man, this is complex. I guess it better be with the price tag. I am pretty impressed with the overall character of this beer. It is delicious.

Had this fresh at the brewery when it first came out and it was gross. Hereís a bottle. Aroma is oaky. Sweet. Subtle bubblegum note. Caramel. Color is red. Little head. So red. Like ruby red. Taste is amazingly balanced. Boozy, oaky, a little floral. Malty. Sweet. Very complex. And smooth. So smooth. Much better than at the brewery. A stunning example of a barley wine. Palate is perfect. Boozy but with a super smooth finish. A great beer and a great barley wine . Like the only style made better through age.

Draft. Brown pour with tan head. Sweet fruit and malty tones, alcohol not there but do expect it in the flavor. Darker malt tones, some sweetness, not too hot, at least when cold.
