3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Churchkey. Mostly clear orange pour with small bubbly head. This beer really lives up to its billing/description. Big apricot and tangerine from the fresh Double Trouble hop character mixing with present but nicely integrated vanilla and almond from the bourbon barrel. Flavor is much of the same, with decent hop bite falling secondary to the sweeter characteristics of the fruity hop tones and the sugary barrel hints. The barreling is well integrated and doesn’t overwhelm the IPA nature of the beer, but it is definitely hot and boozy on the palate. I like this and am impressed with the execution, but not really nuanced nor is there a wow factor. Still, solid stuff from Founders as always.

Pours a tan gold clear. Aroma is earthy hops and world class bourbon. Palate starts sweet but not malty sweet, more from the bourbon and a nice transition to the big on your face hops. Crazy complex. Amazing if your counted amongst the lucky ones to get your hands on Doom!!!

750 ml bottle to oversized snifter (shared with jmborggren and the Mrs.). Looks good; like Double Trouble. Orange with off-white lacing. Smells good too; sweet, hoppy, and boozy with a nice vanilla and oak presence. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. This is great beer!

Bottle poured into founders snifter. Amber pour, a bit darker than double trouble with a big off white head. Aroma is huge on bourbon, vanilla, caramel. Hops take a back seat along with the citrus that is so forward in double trouble. Pretty interesting flavor- the bourbon and sweetness take the front and center, which finishes up with some hoppy bitterness to balance. Pretty smooth and creamy mouthfeel. The after taste is nice. Sweet and lasts.

Draft at Reno’s East. Off yellow color. Nice bourbon and vanilla aroma. Starts out pretty bitter with note much bourbon flavor. Bitterness fades as the beer warms. Wish the bourbon added a little more depth but still an enjoyable beer.

Bottle. I think this is subpar. I like double trouble and I like bbl beer but this doesn't go together at all. Totally funky taste.

Pours a clear somewhat bright light orange with a white lacing. Notes of orange and other citrus followed by alcohol (some bourbon notes). The citrus and bourbon pair in an interesting fashion

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Reno's East. Odd dark pee yellow color with a tiny off-white head. Really nice bourbon and vanilla aromas up front rounded up by mild citrus at the end. Really bitter and a bit hot upfront but it mellows to a nice citrus, pine, and hint of bourbon/wood.
Much better showing than the Bolt
Cutter and much more reasonably priced.

Had at Glunz Global Beer Expo XIX. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a big, off white head. Had strong aromas of bourbon, molasses, brown sugar, and butterscotch. The hops are clearly diminished, but the malt and bourbon make this one of the more peculiar beers I have ever tried. The bourbon leaves a strong aftertaste, but the alcohol was undetected. This is a big, slow sipper that should be tried by any beer fan.

Very nice bourbon on the nose and the initial taste. Bourbon flavor is similar to KBS. Finishes with good bitterness and a decent amount of sweetness. Really one of a kind.
