What a nice treat. Fantastic aroma of bourbon. Reminded me of a scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels. I got a four pack and savored every bottle. I poured it in a small wine glass and enjoyed first the rich aroma and then the deep flavors that this brew had to offer. Oak, bourbon and complex and interesting malt flavors. I want more!

Pretty good beer. Dark brown pour. Malt, bourbon, black licorice, smokey, nuts, coffee, dark dried fruits. Pretty well balanced, but i think it was a bit too creamy/thick in the mouth as the sweetness was a touch too strong for my liking. Still an excellent example of this style.

Thanks to pantanap. Dark brown with a small white head. Nose is whiskey, malts, sweetness, and light hops. Taste of whiskey, some malts, sweetness, and upfront alcohol. Body is a bit thin.Taste lingers. Sort of one dimensional but tasty.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2010 12oz bottled on Nov 16, 2009. Served in a Duvel tulip at cool room temperature. Pours copper brown with a two finger beige head that reduces to a foamy ring and light cap, leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is wow, big time vanilla and oak, bourbon/whiskey, alcohol, a bit of caramel and chocolate, wood is the centerpiece of the aroma, smells of a woodworking shop. Flavor is rich caramel, chocolate, cherries, vanilla, oak, bourbon, mild alcohol but pretty smooth considering the bottleís young age. Some sweetness overall. Mouthfeel is rich and smooth, very full, low carbonation. Damn, this is a treat. Iím already a huge fan of Dirty Bastard and the bourbon barrel aging is blended so well in this one, particularly balanced in the flavor. More, please!

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2010 Initial Rating 3/3/2010 from the 2009 batch
Pours deep mahogony. Nice head fades to good lacing. Nose is slightly fruity, with a nice quantity of oak, and a bit of malt. Thicker mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, slightly oily, has a hit of alcohol but not as much as youíd expect with the ABV. Slight sweetness, moderately bitter, balanced flavor with that nice rich oak and bourbon backend. The barrel character isnít overstated, though, itís present without being dominant or distracting. Well-played, Founders.

2010 bottle, tasted moments after hitting 55F
Pours incredibly deep ruby, practically chocolate. Highly active carbonation but only a moderate head, tons of gorgeous actively bubbling lacing though. The nose is almost all bourbon, and a little hot, with the familiar notes of Dirty Bastard playing in the distant background. Super-creamy, a little oily, solid hints of bitter in the back of the palate to counter-balance a lot of sweet bourbon and malt on the front. Whisky burn is quite present on the finish. Goddamn this stuff smells awesome.
9/5/8/4/18 - 4.4
Iím going to taste the 2009 and the 2010 side by side soon and give an adjusted grade at some point. Right now Iím averaging the grades of the 2009 as rated and the 2010 fresh.

this beer was really unexpected. It was almost like a lightly carbonated scotch or whiskey. That might not seem appealing, but it was excellent. Very enjoyable, definately dont want to have more than one or two, or else you might get into some trouble. Very pricey. Like $14.99 a 4pk. But worth trying

Pours a deep brown with small head. Aroma was dominated by bourban, burnt oak, toffee with a hint of vanilla. The bourban smell dominates, comes through potently in the taste. Taste is slightly sweet with a dry finish. This is certainly a beer that grows on you. Very nice.

This marks the 100th beer I have rated. On tap at Capones. Pours a dark chocolate brown color. Has an aroma of grapefruit, caramel, vanilla, and toffee. Toffee leads the way on taste as well. The oak flavor is also powerful. Has a whiskey feel. Enjoyed it.

Bottle from a trade with phaleslu. Pours cloudy dark caramel color with light khaki head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and oak. Flavor is lots of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts and oak. Lots of earth and wood notes. Medium to full body with soft carbonation and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. Thanks Peter.
