Big and delicious for your íperty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. Itís a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

My 100th. 2010 bottle thanks to A. Pours mahogany with thick, one-finger tan head that slowly fades. Nose of molasses, scotch, maple syrup, vanilla and caramel. Slightly hot up front (bourbon) but there is a full palate of rye, smoke, malt, bread, and oak in the middle. Long finish as the 10.2% might suggest. I am a fan. I wish I had another to cellar; I imagine this would age quite well.

Bottle. Dark ruby tinted brown with a small tan head. Malt, oak, and alcohol nose. Flavor follows suit with sweet malt, oak, alcohol, and vanilla. Itís a little too bourbon for my taste. I far prefer Founders Dirty Bastard to this one.

Bottle. Dirty, murky mud puddle light brown with orange hints around, with a thinner slightly off-white head. Whisky, and lots of bourbon notes, some malt sweetness and booze in the aroma. Bourbon come through in the flavor, with some vanilla oakiness and cherry wood sweetness. Not getting the roasted qualities, but lots of bourbon booziness. Medium to fuller body, with very subtle carbonation. Lovely cold night sipping brew.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, oak, vanilla, bourbon, some rye, and alcohol. Flavor is caramel, bourbon, oak, vanilla, rye, spicy hops and a sweet alcoholic finish. Really good one.

Aroma is pretty amazing--lots of bourbon and vanilla. Flavor is generally sweet with a bourbony, boozy finish. Lots of vanilla to it, an alcohol warming. Iím kind of torn on it--itís got some amazing elements to it, but it doesnít quite come together for me--the bourbon kind of overpowers. The rating here reflects those elements, although as a whole beer Iím not sure it lives up to the parts or to the cost.

brown with moderate white head. vanilla and oak to the nose. low carbonation for the style. moderate bitterness for the style. a lot of vanilla immediately comes through before some oak and a touch of malt. alcohol is presenet but adds nice depth. an excellently oak-aging, providing beautiful flavor, hoever, it may overdo the actual scotch ale, which is hidden in a forrest of toasted oak

12oz bottle. Aroma very strong of roasted malts. Itís like this beer doesnít have any hops at all because the malt is so strong. Also has a strong oak finish. Nice rich texture. Worth trying, but it might be a little too malty.

A: Dark brown with mahogany hues to it. Small off-white, creamy head. S: Lots of bourbon going on here. This sits atop a fairly-strong caramel malt base with some buttered notes. T: Again, the bourbon really comes out. It layers a nice complexity on top of the underlying notes of oak, caramel, and malt sweetness. M: Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. Not too hot, but a pretty good alcohol warmth to it. D: Pretty drinkable, and sips especially quickly for a beer with so much bourbon. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-03-2009

Pours cider brown with very little head. Aroma of sweet caramel, wood, and bourbon. Focus on the bourbon, but cloves, apple, molasses, and hint of cherry is also apparent. Crisp feel, with a medium body. Wish a I had a dirty bastard tonight to compare with this, but it is quite delicious.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2010 On tap served in a snifter. Pour was a caramelized ruby with one finger of light Carmel head nose was bourbon and dates. Taste was was much like the nose but with a slight hint of wood and peat. The bourbon was bit extreme for my tastes but nun the less another great offering from founders.
