3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from the bottle, this beer has a dense, dark, and cloudy chestnut brown color with a crimson-tinged halo around the edges. The aroma is intensely woody, giving an impression of being in a pine forest at dusk after a storm. There is also a mild, fruity, cherry-like sweetness that wafts out from under the wood. The flavor is similarly rustic, with notes of charred wood and dark caramel, but any nuance to the flavor profile is difficult to appreciate under a substantial alcohol heat. Overall, though, despite some identifiable faults, the total experience with this beer is still satisfying.

Bottle to taster. Looks solid; a semi-transparent Brown with off-white lacing. Smells good; malt and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. Nice!

Bottle. Thanks RamyG4 for this great beer. Pours hazy deep amber with a medium creamy beige head. The aroma is loads of barley and sweet caramel with notes of oak and vanilla bourbon. Ripe fruit and wood. Huge dark fruity flavour with heavy notes bourbon, toasted malt and has a warming alcoholic finish. Great!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
2011 vintage 12 oz. bottle fairly hard poured into a Founders Brewing Company snifter.
Pours a dark amber with a two finger beige head. Good retention and noticeable lacing as the head recedes. A lot of bourbon on the nose with oak and toffee. Opens with a shot of bourbon, toffee, vanilla, and rich caramel maltiness. The mouthfeel is amazingly creamy, perfect carbonation, and frankly feels like velvet. A truly amazing brew that sets the standard for barrel-aged scotch ales.

2011 Vintage. Bottle at home courtesy of Armin, Thanks Man!! Poured a clear brown with a crimson tint and a small tan head that quickly dissipated. Coconut, bourbon, wood, light alcohol, and vanilla in the aroma. Taste is cocoa, dark fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, light espresso, and oak with a lingering coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with soft carbonation. Very smooth, and well-balanced; really easy to drink.
