Bottle. Deep, dark red, nicely active, but with a thin head. The aroma is distinctly sweet with a hint of the whiskey within. This drinks with an artful blend of flavors ... brown sugar, black cherry, and of course some good ol’ down-home bourbon. Assembled with the utmost finesse, the whiskey a beautiful complement rather than an obtuse topping. Outstanding! (#4815, 11/4/2012)

Kind of lackluster when I first poured it. No head, and kind of translucent. The aroma builds after letting it sit for a bit. Unbelievable sensation on the palate. Excellent tones of bouron. One of my favorites!

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep amber with almost no head. Bourbon aromas clobber you over the head when you sniff this viscous liquid. Taste reveals heavy oak, booze, bourbon notes. High residual sugar. Very, very boozy tasting yet not hot on the palate. Good stuff, but a sipper for sure...

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Extremely dark brown with a nice head. Aroma is almost all bourbon. Masks the taste quite a bit too. I would never know this started as Dirty Bastard if it was a blind taste. Tasty but disappointing.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a murky reddish brown color with small head that dissipates quickly and leaves almost no lacing. Big, fantastic aroma of bourbon, oak, dried fruit, roasted malts and a little smoke. Taste follows the aroma with the oaky/earthy flavors a little more up front. It’s pretty well balanced with big malty flavors but just a slight overall bitterness. The finish if pretty clean with a bit of smoke that lingers. It’s got a medium body and pretty lively carbonation.

From bottle. Pours a deep ruby red with an instantly vanishing beige head. Bourbon, thats the initial blast of aroma. Once that settles down I get some lighter hints of vanilla, dark fruit, and more bourbon. Taste is much of the same, and delicious. The bourbon is very forward, nicely balanced with vanilla and roasted malts. MF is what you would expect, just enough body to be velvety without being stout-like. Finishes with a nice warm bourbon feel. Truthfully, I don’t normally drink scotch ales, but this one is outstanding.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2013 Outstanding. HUGE bourbon and incredibly rich caramel characters - vanilla and some coconut, wood, caramel - rich butterscotch and toffee. Taste is very sweet as well with big bourbon, wood, and caramel - very sweet and very smooth, soothing burn like a good bourbon. I am very excited to see what this drinks like with some age one it - already getting notably better with a few months on it. An outstanding beer that reveals something new with each drinking experience.

Pours a rich deep copper color with a finger of eggshell foam that settles fairly quickly. Aromas are warm and barreled. Oak, vanilla, smokey earthy spice and a touch of sweet dates... on the palate it is a lot of the same. Nice smooth balance between sweetness, booze and earthy notes. Masterfully crafted I must say ! Great stuff. Mellow and complex
