Poured almost black with lots of head and lacing that stuck around. Oaky bourbon smell which was really nice. Taste was caramel and roasted grains with a large back end of bourbon. The after-taste was what killed it for me unless I just got a bad bottle. I typically like anything aged in barrels but, this one just missed a bit.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2014 Nose is bourbon, caramel, dark sweet cherries, a bit of chocolate. Taste is pretty sweet but rich melange of bourbon, caramel, cherries, plums, smokiness, slightly leathery. All told, a really awesome take on a style Iím not madly in love with.

Bierkraft. Yastes of malt, sugart, brown toffeee and bread. Tastes of toffee, sagrup and cocolatye. Excellent

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep amber with minimal head. Nose is dominated by bourbon. Flavor is primarily bourbon up front, lots of bourbon. There is some malt presence, but bourbon takes the front seat. Very interesting beer, and even though I generally enjoy barrel aged beers, this was a bit much for me.

Had on tap at Old Chicago...this beer was really unexpected. It was almost like a lightly carbonated scotch or whiskey. That might not seem appealing, but it was excellent. Very enjoyable. Was way smoother than its parent dirty bastard.

2009 bottle. Brown in color with amber highlights. A small white head was present upon pouring but faded fast. This smells like boozy pancakes to me, which is coincidentally what Iím gonna make for breakfast tomorrow. Strong vanilla presence in the aroma, too. Taste is sweet with vanilla and a slight anise note in there as well. Stronger dark fruit presence in the taste. Mild alcohol not with a slight warming feeling in the throat which each sip. Another solid offering from bells*.

Poured into a pint glass. Received as part of "extras" in a HB BIF from Hogie.
3.0 A: Really dark brown and rather opaque. I couldnít get a good head (about one finger), and not good retention of that either. Head is light brown in color. Decent amount of lacing. There is a bunch of variable sized crap throughout all layers of the brew.
4.5 S: Damn good aroma. Easily makes up for the sloppy appearance. Bourbon barrels come through quite well and also a tinge of alcohol. Dark roasty malts and dark fruits.
4.0 T: Tastes a lot like it smells. Woodiness and alcohol tinge are present foremost. Lots of raisins and tobacco as well, followed by plum. Roasted malt and caramel.
4.0 M: Heavy Medium body. Except for the bite of alcohol, this is otherwise very smooth.
3.5 D: Though I enjoy a wee heavy/barleywine/olde ale now and again, I havenít found one that I find very drinkable.

Tasted on tap at the brewpub. I preferred the original Dirty Bastard to this one. Nose is big on bourbon, coconut. Pours deep amber with low tan head. Taste is overpowering of bourbon, with sweet malt. Finish is long and bitter.

Smells strongly of wood and vanilla. Deep amber in color. Complex dark ale, sweet an roasty with nice oaky and whiskey tones. One of my favorites.
