Amazing aroma predominantly of scotch and caramel. Nice smooth earthy taste that has hints of vanilla. Aftertaste lingers a bit, but all in all really love this beer.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle, bottled 10/07/11, served in a Deschutes Snifter.
A: Pours a very dark cherry wood with a deep body. An off-white head forms on the pour and dissipates to a nice ring and some floating wisps. Light really shines off this brew.
S: Smells of bourbon with some light chocolate and subtle oaty malts. Very sweet smelling sugars as well.
T: The bourbon is up front with some nice caramel malts. Bready malts, brown sugar and molasses create a nice sweet backbone. There is a slight vanilla sweetness on the finish with a little heat.
M: Medium bodied, well carbonated with a sweet finish and some heat.
O: The barrel is well integrated yet again in a Founders beer. This is sweet, but not overly sweet. Great beer.

@ZZT V. Copper to ruby colour with no head. Smells very sweet, wood, malty, some red fruit and it smells kinda thick. Tastes very sweet, lots of wood (oak), resin, nuts (hazelnut and almond). Quite great! Full body, low carbo, slightly silky.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from the bottle, this beer has a dense, dark, and cloudy chestnut brown color with a crimson-tinged halo around the edges. The aroma is intensely woody, giving an impression of being in a pine forest at dusk after a storm. There is also a mild, fruity, cherry-like sweetness that wafts out from under the wood. The flavor is similarly rustic, with notes of charred wood and dark caramel, but any nuance to the flavor profile is difficult to appreciate under a substantial alcohol heat. Overall, though, despite some identifiable faults, the total experience with this beer is still satisfying.

Bottle. Thanks RamyG4 for this great beer. Pours hazy deep amber with a medium creamy beige head. The aroma is loads of barley and sweet caramel with notes of oak and vanilla bourbon. Ripe fruit and wood. Huge dark fruity flavour with heavy notes bourbon, toasted malt and has a warming alcoholic finish. Great!
