4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Purchased at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home watching week 11 Thursday night football. Appearance a dirty ruby / brown with a very thin white head that rims around the glass. Aroma of bourbon, cherries, sweetness, oak, booze, doesnít smell overtly alcoholic but itís obviously apparent. Taste is really nice, vanilla, cherry, bourbon, roasted malt, and it all balances together very well. Nice oak/wood flavor too, it goes down smooth, much smoother than other brews of this high ABV caliber. Iím really enjoying this one, highly recommend it.

12 ounce bottle from Garden City Beverage Barn. Dark brown burgundy with ring and some lace. Smoky peaty dark cherry woody herbal aroma with slight burn. Toasted caramel dark fruity sweetness smoky woody spicy herbal hot vanilla finish. A little hot for my tastes, but very complex and huge. An excellent sipper for a cold evening.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark brownish red color with thin tan head, strong oak/bourbon aromas, very malty hints of vanilla and dark fruits. Flavor is full of bourbon, almost like I took a dirty bastard and poured some in, a sure sipper.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2012 The Backwoods Bastard has a strong bourbon taste and aroma. Very dark dark red-tinted color. Very nice taste that almost falls too close to bourbon...maybe too much.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, thanks to mrDeath5493. Pours a murky brown with a small lazy head. Aroma of sweet malts and peat smoked scotch. Tastes slightly astringent but the alcohol is balanced by a hefty body with plenty of sweetness. Finishes with pepper and cinnamon, slightly bitter. Really really tasty.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours mahogany with a tight off white head that fades to a thin tight ring. Aroma is bourbon and chocolate malt and a hint of vanilla. Taste is more chocolate roasty malt and bourbon with a woodiness and smooth English bitters. Palate is full and slick with a chaulky dry finish. Very nice beer with a great bourbon character.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2011 On tap at Fries Cafe. Pours deep dark ruby brown with a small khaki head. Nice lacing on the glass with tightly formed small bubbles around the edges. Enormous aroma of bourbon, cherry, and vanilla. Taste is out of this world. Huge bourbon, vanilla, cherry, toasted malt, wood, caramel, and earthy hops. Medium bodied and slightly sweet, with lingering vanilla, peat, and dry hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Simply put, amazing. Drinks like a fine Scotch or Bourbon. Definitely not for everyone. Once again, Founders rules.
