Iím trying to be objective in my rating, as Iím not a huge fan of Scotch Ales....this one has a monster flavor and aroma of Alcohol. Pretty much hits the mark for that it should be....just not my bag baby!
Paid $15 for a 4 pack of bottles....if your a fan of the style then well worth it...will be a pass on the next set for me though...

Very oak forward. Bourbon a little, but strong oak. But done very well. This does not resemble regular Founders Bastard Ale by any means. Which is a good thing because I wasnít a huge fan of that beer as a scotch ale anyway.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a rich brown color with medium light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, alcohol, peat, and some malt. The alcohol aroma really dominates once it warms up. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, caramel malt, peat, and fusol alcohol. Taste is pretty well balanced, but again, the alcohol is a bit sharp for my liking. Overall, probably one of the better scotch ales out there.

Dark, dark carmel color with light tan head. Intense scotch ale aroma of overripe dark forest fruit and bourbon, with deep malt and moldy earth and the dust of a county road. Flavor was a bit of a let down, fairly simple carmel, vanilla and malt with some dry chocolate, butterscotch and a bit of sour. Maybe it is just a bit thin tasting, doesnít punch you in the mouth like it does in the nose. Nice dry finish.

On tap and snifter served at Brixieís in Brookfield, IL. Poured a dark brown with ruby highlights showing through. The head was a bubbly, light tan foam with lasting, curtainy sheets of lacing. The aroma was rich, roasty malt, cask wood and strong bourbon notes, with dark fruit and caramelly sweetness. Following these into the flavor was some moderate hop bitterness and hints of dark and dry bakerís chocolate. Full bodied and a real treat on tap since many places in the area only offered bottles. A truly warming and tasty brew to sip and enjoy!

Bottle pours a cloudy dark copper body with a tiny beige head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is boozy bourbon, caramel, toffee, and vanilla. Almost full bodied with a lot of creaminess. Taste is complex. Bourbon, peat, vanilla, toffee, herbal hops, alcohol warmth, all work together nicely. Dangerously drinkable!

Yet again, another great beer by Founders. Pours very dark red. Didnít pick up much of the bourbon. Has a ting to the nostrils of roasted grains as well as the alcohol but is not unpleasant at all. Near perfect finish and great mouthfeel. Canít wait to try at from the tap at Founders.

MMmmmm, baby, baby - canít get enough of your beer babe. Luxuriant. Poured with fine creamy, light tan head and good lace. Color is cured cherry wood. Aroma is vanilla, sweet cherries, malt, caramel, and brandy. Flavor is sweet, a hint of roastiness, Texture is velvety with fine carbonation. Some alcohol in the finish which is fairly long and sweet with a tinge of bitterness at the very end. Not a session beer although an excellent beer.

Pours the color of rootbeer with a tan head. The first flavor that jumps out at you is butterscotch which is followed by a little wood and some caramel. Overall a very tasty beer.
