Big and delicious for your ’perty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2015 12oz bottle from Kalamazoo megabev. Pour is dark brown like cola, reddish hues. Head is offwhite sort of orangeish looking, quarter inch high. Moderate lacing. Smells like alcohol, maple, supple leather and perhaps a hint of cheddar? Tingly mouth feel, fairly low carbonation. More maple and vanilla in the taste, then whiskey and honey, slightly bitter pine hops are detectable as well. Finish is scotch flavored and has an alcoholic burning tingle. Updated 23-May-2013: Bottle aged from October 2012 . Liquid appearance the same but no head. Smoother, sweeter aroma. Same scents just less harsh. Smoother flavor as well, bitter malts reminiscent of most scotch ales, even more vanilla and possibly less maple flavored than fresh. Definitely a little bit better. 21-March-2015: Appearance unchanged from last time. Aroma is deep dark fruits, bourbon, molasses, similar to previous but harsher than description. Mouthfeel not tingly but oily and creamy. Flavor is verging on grain alcohol. Wouldn’t recommend aging for 2.5 years.

341ml January 2014 Bottle from trade. Aroma: bourbon, sweet caramel, molasses, vanilla, woody. Quite earthy. App: brown as coca cola, small beige head, ok retention, nice lacing. Taste and palate: full body, really smooth, medium sweetness, dark red fruits in mouth, alcohol and light bitter finish. Overall: wow! Wasn’t expecting much from this one as I’m not a great fan of scotch ale. By its aroma, I expected something overly sweet but this is so well balance that we can easily accept the sweetness. Wow! Awesome! Scotch ale at its best.

Remarkable. Decided to chill a bottle from the ?cellar? (low 60s) waiting since Nov (9mo) and enjoyed this evening. (previous bottle from the same purchase ?fresh?, and draft last year, unrated)Aroma mostly malt and barrel, beautifully blended, draws you into the dark with . Appearance is perfect imho, deepest ruby red needing significant backlight to detect anything but darkness. Flavor is remarkable, imho (again) one of the best examples of a perfect blend of ale and bourbon barrel.Ten minutes after finishing and I?m wishing I?d chilled the rest of my supply - this is dangerous good... I might buy out supply when it resurfaces this fall...

Dark brown, with a head that is almost yellow while it lasts, which isn’t long. Nice and thick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. The barrels have added a very pronounced whisky nose, and it’s a good one, with wood, vanilla and a bit of smokiness. Dried fruit too, which carries into the taste, alongside lots of deep malt, syrup and some smoky spice. Finish is great - lingering pepper and tar. Best scotch ale I’ve had.
