Big and delicious for your ’perty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Bourbony. Wood. Oak. Light caramel brown color. Hot. Licorice? Caramel. Not my kind of thing but if you like barrels give this a go.

At first whiff, I was certain the whiskey would dominate and I would not like this. I’m not a fan of whiskey of any kind, so the whole bourbon-barrel-aging craze is something of an anathema to me. However... having now got into my 3rd 4-pack of this stuff, I keep coming back for more. Pours a dark mahogany with a thin off-white top and some nice lacing. Aroma is dominated by whiskey, but smoothed out by malt and caramel. Flavor is similar in that whiskey dominates, but even more so the malty goodness rounds things out with a nice sweetness. Above all, this is one of the smoothest-sipping beers I’ve ever had. The creamy mouthfeel, and ease with which this swallows is amazing. I suspect that were this not put in a bourbon barrel, it could possibly be by far my favorite scotch ale.

Tap at Nova. Brown with a thin ring. Bourbon, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and a little alcohol. Medium sweetness with a dry oak flavor. Lighter body with a soft bubbly feel.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), with notes of sawdust, bourbon / corn syrup, brown sugar, alcohol, cardboard, sherry, cherry. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, heavily alcoholic. A rough, clumsy, bruiser of a beer. Lots of raw wood in the nose, like a fresh-sawn 2x4 or a pile of its sawdust. The rest is mostly alcohol, oxidation, and caramel, but it’s not unpleasant...just very limited and simple. Almost unbearably sweet and syrupy and quite hot in the afterburn. So, yeah, basically Top 50 material by beer bro standards.

100ml draught at Taphouse, many thanks to Ungstrup. Shiny naked black surface. Near-black body. Inviting aromas of dried fruits, liquorice and smoked malts. Jam-like taste of dark and dried fruits, black malts and smoke, Nicely roasted ending with a twist of bourbon warming down the throat. Full bodied. Tasty (Copenhagen 16.11.2015).

Tap at local cantina. Nose is all bourbon and vanilla and taste is the same. Strength is good but that's about it. Less of an ale by far than It should be. Won't order again. Feels like my mouth got bill cosby'ed.

Sample at Taphouse. Low but lasting creamy light brown head. Pitch black body. Roasted malt caramel coacoa with weak hints of whisky. Sweet and mild roasted malt caramel with a fair amount of hops bitterness, hints of whisky and spices but not the expected vanilla from the barrels. Low carbonation. Long sweet finish. Alcohol nicely hidden by the sweetniess of the beer. Very well balanced.
