3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A sweet, boozy night-cap of the kind I find hard to resist, even though this tests my sugar tolerance. Bottle-brown with thick head. The aroma has strong molasses, turpentine, burnt brown sugars, ginger and spice. Slick mouthfeel. Very sweet and treacly on the tongue with some heat in the swallow. Burnt malts and prominent alcohol with a lingering herbal finish that Iím not sure I like. Ultimately a bit too sweet and one-dimensional to rate it any higher. (355ml bottle from Leura Cellars)

Caramel, nuts, dried fruits, wood and vanilla in the aroma. copper with a tan head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Medium to full body with a soft carbonation. Overall a really nice Scotch ale, lots of malt sweetness, pleasant vanilla notes and some warming alcohol in the back.

The Bottle Shop. Clear deep ruby lasting tan head. bourbon vanilla aroma. Fruity malt. Then more of the same in mouth. Sweetish. More vanilla on finish. Not overly woody. Itís kinda I like it. The alcohol helps but nice.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Acadia with commomshawn. Served up in a tulip glass. Dark brown with plenty of effervescence. Full finger of head with impressive lacing. Powerful aroma pushing a bourbon agenda on the drinker. Almost a Belgian quad smell. Taste has a lot going on. Dark fruit like plum or raisin. Chocolate and espresso notes. Alcohol burn and slightly peat like characteristics intermingled as well. Very rich. Reminds me of beers Iíve sampled at beer festivals that have ultimately resulted in my demise. Really good bite at the end with a chocolate residue. Enjoying this beer a lot...probably too much. What a bastard.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
A- Bourbon, scotch, dark cherries, vanilla, malty, oak, caramel, strong.
A- Dark mahogany color, clear liquid, tan head.
T- Bourbon, cherries, vanilla, oak, caramel, subtle alcohol burn.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish.
O- What a damn fine beer this is. As soon as I popped the cap and started to pour I could smell the strong bourbon aroma from a couple feet away. The head sadly faded fairly quite and took the complex and amazing aroma with it but as I took first sip, it was heaven sent. Rich, complex, and tantalizing the taste buds this beer was spot on. Really nothing to complain about. At all.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nose is vanilla, glacier cherry, pronounced bourbon, cola, caramel - huge nose. Taste is powerful bourbon, vanilla, leading to malt, more whiskey, then caramel, cherry, and then some emerging oak in the finish. Mouthfeel is fine.
Itís a beer that delivers on itís bourbon promise, but I felt at the expense of the base beer which is swamped rather than complimented.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma has caramel/toffee/butterscotch, hops, and whiskey barrel. The taste is like the aroma with lots of butteryness. The appearance is dark amber with no head. The palate is thick. Overall good but the bitterness is way to astringent.

This was pretty excellent. The layering was great, with hops lacing their way through chocolaty malt, vanilla and other bourbon and wood notes, some mild spice, maybe all-spice, and a bit of smokiness a la scotch. Thanks Max!
