4.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Had this last year and remembered loving it. Poured into a snifter..
A: Oaky. Boozy. Molasis note. yes..... not bad but not very complex.
A: Pours decently thick especially watching the bubbles rise. Little head. Nice semi transparent brown color.
T: First thought is something like oh my god this is amazing. As the beer finishes the thought continues only more so. If ever a beer was a 10 in taste this is it. Molasses sweetness. Dates. Alcohol cuts through but is more warming and surprising that aggressive. Oaky. Boozy. Finish has a huge bit of malt which is crazy for a beer this strong. Goes down with almost a brandy-like warmth. Just insane. yeah there’s some carmel in there as well when the beer warms.
P: Feels smooth on the palate. Carbonation is on the money. Flavor development is also amazing. Goes through many different stages. As mentioned before the alcohol cuts though but not in a bad way, more to remind you that it’s there.
This beer is simply amazing. The tastes is complex, the palate is great. The weird thing is it doesn’t smell that great. Oak and boozy are really the big smell notes. But this one hits where it counts: a must try. (How can it be an overall 20 when the smell is a 7? IDK the sum of the parts is less than the whole?)

Caramel, toffee, massive vanilla tones an a little bitter oak. I love bourbon aged ales. Not a typical scottish ale, which is probably why it’s better than most! Extremely good with aged cheeses!

A little too boozy for what I was hoping for. Some nice sweet caramel flavors sit amongst some dark fruit. Good, not worth the hype though.

The hype out weighs this beer. A solid B to Low B+ beer but not a A beer. I really wanted this beer to blow me away but compared Wulver its just does not hold up on any level.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From 345 ml bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with some brick red highlights at the edge and a thin but lasting off-white head. Aromas of raisins, prunes, macerated cherries, bourbon, vanilla and a touch of cocoa. Taste starts of with sweet biscuits and brown sugar, before some vanilla kicks in then some deep dark fruit flavours. There’s a little alcohol burn at the end but that’s quite minimal. Full creamy mouthfeel. Lingering malty aftertaste. Excellent barleywine.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at Mackeys Hideout. Pours a deep dark copper, with a minimal thin beige ring of foam. Aroma of dark fruit, malt. Tastes of dark fruit and malt. Very easy to drink, and to get in trouble with.
You won’t find many beers better than this.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma of black cherry, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Tastes like everything in the aroma but has less cherry and more vanilla. Reminds me of a barleywine. Very good, glad I was able to try this one.

Very good. Very malty. No hops to speak of, but I like it. Not sure if I’d get a six pack, but at a bar it’s good.
