Big and delicious for your íperty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. Itís a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Had this last year and remembered loving it. Poured into a snifter.. A: Oaky. Boozy. Molasis note. yes..... not bad but not very complex. A: Pours decently thick especially watching the bubbles rise. Little head. Nice semi transparent brown color. T: First thought is something like oh my god this is amazing. As the beer finishes the thought continues only more so. If ever a beer was a 10 in taste this is it. Molasses sweetness. Dates. Alcohol cuts through but is more warming and surprising that aggressive. Oaky. Boozy. Finish has a huge bit of malt which is crazy for a beer this strong. Goes down with almost a brandy-like warmth. Just insane. yeah thereís some carmel in there as well when the beer warms. P: Feels smooth on the palate. Carbonation is on the money. Flavor development is also amazing. Goes through many different stages. As mentioned before the alcohol cuts though but not in a bad way, more to remind you that itís there. This beer is simply amazing. The tastes is complex, the palate is great. The weird thing is it doesnít smell that great. Oak and boozy are really the big smell notes. But this one hits where it counts: a must try. (How can it be an overall 20 when the smell is a 7? IDK the sum of the parts is less than the whole?)

2014 bottle on 5/23/15. Pours a hazy dark brown with minimal head. Nose is bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, yellow cake, almond extract, cherries. Taste is the same. Caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, bourbon, damn this tastes good. Superb.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip: Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon, caramel, and lots of sweet roasted malts. Taste is almost like drinking bourbon with some roasted notes. Bit of leaves, earth, and just sweet enough. Heavy body, definitely a sipping beer, try it at different temperatures. Founder barrel ages well.

On tap at Triangle Wine (Founders tap takeover). Pours brown with a dark amber hue. Aroma is huge caramel, bourbon, vanilla, some malt backing as well. Taste is slightly sweet, but tolerable, with malts, bourbon, oak and vanilla on the end. Creamy texture, thick bodied. Very filling. Overall an excellent scotch ale. One of the finest.

Beautiful bourbon aroma with notes of caramel and sour cherries. Pours hazy deep brown with a very short head that laces slightly. Tastes wonderfully, sweet damn! Starts with a bourbon kick thatís wrapped in caramel and oak, then finishes with a profound chocolate finish. Weak medium body with decent carbonation and a brandy finish to it. One of the best brews Iíve had!

Appearance is murky brown, no head at all really. Fairly opaque. Aroma- vanilla, bourbon, barrel sweetness, caramel, treacle toffee, chocolate, hint of raisin, woody, brandy. Taste- lots of barrel character- vanilla sweetness, marzipan, nutty, treacle, caramel, hint of smoke, coffee, slight milk chocolate quality, cherry brandy, bitterness towards the end. Quite sticky and smooth mouthfeel. Really nice.

Nearly clear auburn with a small tan head. Caramel, brown sugar and dark fruit, yet not overly sweet. Doesnít really say "whisky" to me but still mighty fine.

33cl bottle served in a snifter. Aroma is buttery bourbon, oak, sweet malts and rich dried fruits (Christmas pudding). Taste is amazingly accurate to the aroma with just a little too much sweetness although it is well balanced and for a wee heavy to be getting marks anywhere near this level from me is unheard of. The mouthfeel is thick and silky smooth as you would expect. I could not imagine a better example as wee heavies are always a little too sweet for my liking. This, though has so much depth it is constantly evolving was you sip. This is a proper American beer and one I will buy whenever the opportunity arises.
