COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big and delicious for your ’perty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Had this last year and remembered loving it. Poured into a snifter.. A: Oaky. Boozy. Molasis note. yes..... not bad but not very complex. A: Pours decently thick especially watching the bubbles rise. Little head. Nice semi transparent brown color. T: First thought is something like oh my god this is amazing. As the beer finishes the thought continues only more so. If ever a beer was a 10 in taste this is it. Molasses sweetness. Dates. Alcohol cuts through but is more warming and surprising that aggressive. Oaky. Boozy. Finish has a huge bit of malt which is crazy for a beer this strong. Goes down with almost a brandy-like warmth. Just insane. yeah there’s some carmel in there as well when the beer warms. P: Feels smooth on the palate. Carbonation is on the money. Flavor development is also amazing. Goes through many different stages. As mentioned before the alcohol cuts though but not in a bad way, more to remind you that it’s there. This beer is simply amazing. The tastes is complex, the palate is great. The weird thing is it doesn’t smell that great. Oak and boozy are really the big smell notes. But this one hits where it counts: a must try. (How can it be an overall 20 when the smell is a 7? IDK the sum of the parts is less than the whole?)

Pours dark brown, murky and cloudy. Smells like bourbon! Taste is sweet with complex flavours – vanilla, wood, caramel, roasted malt, bourbon. Very nice indeed. A good bottle to split with a friend.

On tap at Bishops Arms Folkis, October 2014. A bit hazy dark amber with a medium head. Really a lot of malt in this one. Also dried fruit, caramel, some nuts, vanilla and light bourbon. Sweet and with warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was thick. A nice beer. I wonder what Gandalf would think about this one?

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"DAMN!!! Incredible aroma (9.5) of vanilla, bourbon, slight peet, sweet malt and a touch of hops. since DB is a more complex scotch ale, more flavors were present in the barreled version and the bourbon was done very very well. i LOVE this beer and will look for more! thanks John. loved it!"

One year old poured into a snifter. Looks like a typical scotch ale, but that is the end of it. Aromas of sweet toasted malt and sugars with bourbon on it immediately after. Such a pleasure to taste. The sweetness and sticky texture are rounded out well by the boozy finish. Overall I am pretty much in love with this beer; complex malts and bourbon... what’s not to love? Thank you Founders for this gift of a brew!

sampler 9/3 Unos Hamilton. Bourbon rules this rich amber pour. Strong enough to put you down for the night.
