All the hoppy bite of the regular bastard are mellowed out by the vanilla sweetness from the oaky aging. Very sweet and malty with an alcohol/syrupy finish. Very good.

Bottle from trade with BenH - many thanks to you! The beer pours out very beautiful in a deep dark colour with steady low head and smooth body. Wonderful aroma of intense chocolate and coffee. Taste of bittersweet chocolate, really good coffee, cake, toffee and woods. Coffee and cake in the finish. Great, absolutely superb and perfect beer. Enjoyed it a lot.

Pours a bloddy mahogany red with small head which diminished right away. Aroma is berries and malts with a lingerinng Scotch. Taste is amazing. Liquid Gold. Berries...Scotch...malts...deliciousness. the alcohol is hidden so well. I wanted to sip this only to make it last longer. Delicious beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 12 oz. bottle, pours a extremely dark blood-red amber with a quickly dissipating khaki head. Earthly, boozey, and cherry notes are prevalent among the roasted malts. A medium amount of bitterness is consistent throughout the experience, while the booziness is heavily masked, but still noticeable. A somewhat medium body for such a strong ale, finishes with the taste still lingering on your tongue. Overall, a nice Scotch Ale that will keep your mouth engaged throughout the entire experience. Highly recommended.

355mL bottle. BB 24/8/14
Deep mahogany body, holds a dense creamy beige head.
Oak upfront and prominent - notes of butter, vanilla, toasty caramel, charred Bourbon barrel, combining with dried fruits, vinous plum, rich toffee malt, with a hint of roast & fortified wine-like booziness.
Full body, rich & sticky without being overtly sweet or cloying. Low carbonation, long smooth finish.
Palate continues with spiced dried fruits, toasted & charred oak notes, rich toffee malts, dark fruits, vanilla and whisky undertones. Long warm finish, good hit of bitterness, very satisfying. Great balance & flavour!

Pours ruby-mahogany with a beige head. Aromas of light smoke, vanilla, oak, caramel and bourbon. oak, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, light smoke, and some dark fruits. Tastes of nutty caramel, inputs of dark fruits and oak, some chocolate with a finish of bourbon. I would call this a barley wine.

Wow! This is truly a masterpiece!
Clear dark amber-red with a beige, fluffy head.
Nose: Honey, vanilla, single malt whisky, oak, dried fruit, toffee, caramel malt, bourbon and licorice. Oh! It’s so complex! I love it!
Taste: Butter, fudge, bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, alcohol, nuts and brown sugar.
A full body with a great complex texture. Little carbonation.
As a lover of great single malt whisky and a good bourbon I naturally fall as a rock for this. It’s heaven on earth...

Not a fan of Scoth Ale/Wee Heavies usually, but this beer is amazing! This may be one of my top 5 beers I've ever had. The amazingly complex bourbonesque-scotch greatness leaves the most awesome lingering taste in your mouth. Must try for any beer lover!
