Big and delicious for your ’perty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Poured from the bottle, this beer has a dense, dark, and cloudy chestnut brown color with a crimson-tinged halo around the edges. The aroma is intensely woody, giving an impression of being in a pine forest at dusk after a storm. There is also a mild, fruity, cherry-like sweetness that wafts out from under the wood. The flavor is similarly rustic, with notes of charred wood and dark caramel, but any nuance to the flavor profile is difficult to appreciate under a substantial alcohol heat. Overall, though, despite some identifiable faults, the total experience with this beer is still satisfying.

Pours deep mahogany with nice lacy head, a really pretty beer. Aroma is straight bourbon - vanilla, charred oakiness, maple syrup, raisins, caramel. Flavors are another bourbon punch of vanilla, smokiness, sweet malt, and a little bitterness to round out the finish. A really nice sipper.

12 oz. bottle. Bottle dated 10/8/10, originally reviewed 10/24/2011. It’s got nearly no head and a dark brown body with flecks of ruby. A few bubbles and a ring around the surface show the only signs of life. Smells of Bourbon and lots of it. When it’s cold, it only smells of bourbon and charred oak. As it warms, it smells significantly better. The malt character comes through as caramel and burnt sugar. Bourbon and oak again in the flavor. Bitterness, too. Maybe from the oak or maybe from the hops, not sure. Again, the malt profile doesn’t shine until it warms. When it does, it’s a lot of rich sugars. Not complex, but good. Hot for sure. You taste all of the 10.2%. The carbonation keeps it from being syrupy. Still slow drinking from the booze. It’s barrel-aged sugar. Apparently, back in 2011, I still liked barrel aged sugar.

11.1%ABV. Strong ale. Poured out brown, black. 26ºSRM. Nose has molasses, nuttiness suggesting pecans and raw brazil nuts, toasted almonds. Scents of vanilla and marzipan and toasted coconut. Mouthfeel is syrupy. Palate has a collage of dessert flavors: toasted coconut, vanilla sauce, macaroons, dark chocolate, sweet coffee, cafe au lait. The front of the palate is full and broad with sweet, bready, and light salt, almost like a caramel seasalt chessecake. Finish is woody bitter and a little lingering. Goes on Favorites List!

Pours dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is rich with fruit notes, raisin, barrels, strong wooden, old boat, rum, fruits, light smoke, cream, old furniture. Taste is also very rich, soft, creamy, old barrels, raisin, rum, dried fruits, creamy pie, chocolate cake, old wood, overriped berries, sweetness, bitter. It is too good to describe that. Enormously good beer!

Bottle. Pours dark mahogany with thin head. Aroma is sweet malty bourbon. Taste is sweet bourbon malt up front with a bourbon toffee finish. The alcohol to me is well hidden. I like it better than i though i would.

Stellar. Not much sweetness at all. Very tasty. A hint of malt. Nothing wrong here at all.
