4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 badnewsbeers (2297) - Grand Rapids, USA - APR 20, 2010
Yet another great porter variety! Tap at black party, 2010. Black with small brown head. Aroma of charred malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Tart cherry as well. Based on the aroma, I’d expect a dry and bitter, highly roasted porter. Way off. Huge milk chocolate, coffee and caramel. Sweet, syrupy tart black cherry. Dense, creamy palate. Similar in some regards to bells cherry stout
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Growler shared by Azurelimits at a recent tasting. Shared alongside bmanning, Amyliz4, and hhanson.
A: Pours jet black, but not too thick and viscous. Slight tan head.
S: Plenty of fresh, semi-tart cherries alongside a good amount of roasted malt and hints of chocolate.
T: Roasted dark malt alonside a bit of dark chocolate and maybe some faint hints of sharp espresso. The roasted tartness fits right in with the cherries.
M: Medium bodied with good carbonation.
D: Good here as well. A very nice twist on the porter style. Founders never ceases to impress.

off draft courtesy a kind friend, thanks! pours opaque brown with a late rising light brown head. aroma is tons and tons of cocoa, with plenty of cherries of course. nice solid burst of sweet cherries fades nicely into a more tart finish. the sweetness is a lil bit heavy on the palate after a bit. good stuff, the cherry makes anice addition, but not for everyday.

Poured from a growler, thanks Ian! Black with a nice biege head. Aroma was bitter chocolate, earthy hops and a bit of tartness. Taste was big chocolate notes, super rich dark cherries, sweet malt, molasses. The nose fooled me a bit here and the cherry really comes through in the flavor. This was quite good, really rich and syrupy, but I enjoyed it a lot. One of the best cherry beers I have had.
