railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2007 This was a refreshing and tasty beer good for a hot day with a rasberry taste and not to overwhelming. The alcohol is well hidden and not noticeable at all.CHEERS! Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA Sep 9, 2007 As soon as the bottle was opened I got a hint of rasberries. Pours a beautiful ruby red color with a fluffy white head. Big rasberry nose. Strong, sweet rasberry on the palate ending with a tartness. Quite fizzy. Never had anything quite like this. Dangerously drinkable. Highalchol hidden well. Man, was this very good. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Sep 7, 2007 Pours red, with a hint of brown. Small white head. Aroma is all raspberries. Flavor is raspberries, starting out, and ending tart. Some alcohol is present, but did seems less than 12.3%. Better than Rubaeus, but not quite as good as NG Raspberry Tart. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Sep 6, 2007 9/05/2007: Founder’s Blushing Monk pours out a clear red color is a slight violet hue to it. The head is thin and foamy and is also has a violet-colored tinge to it. The aroma is loaded with ripe raspberries fresh from the vine with a hint of dark chocolate in the background. The slightly sweet flavor is mostly raspberry and could probably pass in a blind tasting as a fruity red wine. There is a hint of tartness in the finish (just like real raspberries have!). The body of this beer is medium-light and it is softly carbonated and smooth on the palate. Bluching Monk is a great fruit beer and is even better than the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/founders-rübæus/46846/39793/>Founder’s Rübæus!
22 oz bottle (12.1% ABV) shared by Peanut at the Dilly Deli. Thanks for sharing this surprise bottle Peanut. I really appreciate it! Rating #89 for this beer...
michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 6, 2007 22oz. Bottle: Very sweet aroma. Smells of raspberries and Robitussin. Poured purple/ruby/magenta in color with a tiny violet head that diminished immediately. Kinda looks like Manischewitz wine. Clear. Some tiny particles. Flavor is heavily sweet and light to medium tart. Tastes of raspberries and a little alcohol. Light to medium body. Thin but syrupy texture. Lively carbonation. Sweet raspberry finish. Quite a good fruit beer. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Sep 4, 2007 22 oz. bomber bottle, no bottling date, but I would imagine it’s the 2007 vintage, 12.3% ABV, sampled in a tulip glass.
Poured a deep reddish brown, when held up to the light you get nice luminous red hues. Small foamy pink head that dissipated into a thin bubbly lacing. An appealing start.
Tart raspberry estery nose with a light solvent alcohol. Also traces of seediness and tea leaves.
Firm, crisp medium bodied mouthfeel from the hidden condense carbonation. A pleasant dry, puckering tart raspberry taste, some seediness as well, hints of Belgian sugars that don’t interfere with the raspberry tartness. Towards the middle a sour citrus comes out, along with tastes of sponge cake. In the finish a light solvent alcohol flavor emerges, but overall, the alcohol is pretty tame, just a low temperature warmth in the palate.
I much prefer this over their regular Rübæus, I thought this was a big improvement, rivals one of my favorites, the New Glarus Raspberry Tart. I need to do a side-by-side comparison one evening soon.
wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2007 Pours a ruby red with a small medium bead head, kind of like champagne. Looks like cranberry juice. Sweet aroma of fresh dark berries and bubble gum. Fruity dry tartness dominates the taste. Lambic-like; vinous, citrusy. Can’t detect ABV at all. So acidic though, that I feel that drinking the whole bomber would give me acid reflux. Very good, even though fruity beers aren’t my style. And what’s with Michigan and Indiana? Four raters from these states lamented the high cost. Retailers there must be screwing you guys. I paid $8.99 for the 22 oz bomber in metro St. Louis. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 3, 2007 Poured from a 22oz bomber into a tulip. This brew poured a beautiful ruby color with a thin, pink head. Some faint lacing was left around the glass. The aroma was totally dominated by raspberries and sweet cherries. The flavor followed the same path. There was also a light sourness behind the raspberries and cherries. The high ABV is nicely hidden as well. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and champagne-like, featuring lots of fizzy, tiny bubbles. This was one tasty brew, but as mentioned in earlier reviews, the price tag is a bit steep at $16 a bottle. Regardless of the price, I love it!!!
