Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle sampled at the 7/5/08 Bocky Bash locals tasting. Pours a cloudy cranberry juice color with minimal head. Nose is raspberry puree and a bit of funk. Taste is fresh raspberries, bubble gum and malt. Full bodied mouth feel. Good stuff. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle courtesy tpd975. Pours a clear ruby red with a small light pink head that leaves spoty lacing. Aroma of fresh tart raspberries on top of more raspberries. Taste starts off with a touch of sweet malt and finishes with tons of tart raspberries. Medium tart mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitternee and insainly hidden alcohol. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Jun 17, 2008 Red pour with a snappy pink head. Aroma is very tart...with berries! Flavor is tart raspberry as well as blackberry and currants, some bread. Finishes more acidic than I expected. Very nice, 12.3? Hid the alcohol well... Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Jun 15, 2008 Pours red with a tan head. Smells of flowers, perfumy, lots of raspberry. Tastes of raspberry jam, lots of buttery hints of the finish. Nice. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Jun 7, 2008 Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at the April Get Together.
Clear, deep cherry body with a small white head.
Big berry aroma.
Sweet at the start, going tart into the finish.
The extremely high abv comes across as a bit of cough medicine but it stays in check. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jun 3, 2008 A nice red color with faint pink head. Tart raspberry aroma with a malty hint. Very similar flavor profile but with a pronounced sweetness. PorterFiend (8), Westland, Michigan, USA does not count May 30, 2008 A terrific raspberry flavor that is best in small doses. I’ve known people who will drink entire glasses of the Monk. It’s a bit too fruity (and expensive) for me to do that. That said, I highly recommend mixing it with a stout or porter. Usually a splash will do the trick. I haven’t mixed it with Young’s Double Chocolate or Breckenridge’s Vanilla Porter, but I have a feeling it would be a dynamite combination. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 Thanks to BDR for sharing. Big aroma that includes, unfortunately, cough syrup, but on the positive side, good cherry and raspberry as well. Flavor is simply sweet raspberry with some wheat. I am surprised to see this has so much alcohol, I didn’t perceive any in the flavor or the aroma, but perhaps that is the cause of the cough syrup aroma. Nice red color.
