The head is thin and foamy and is also has a violet-colored tinge to it. The aroma is loaded with ripe raspberries fresh from the vine with a hint of dark chocolate in the background. The slightly sweet flavor is mostly raspberry and could probably pass in a blind tasting as a fruity red wine. There is a hint of tartness in the finish (just like real raspberries have!). The body of this beer is medium-light and it is softly carbonated and smooth on the palate. Bluching Monk is a great fruit beer and is even better than the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/founders-rübæus/ Rübæus!
22 oz bottle (12.1% ABV) shared by Peanut at the Dilly Deli. Thanks for sharing this surprise bottle Peanut. I really appreciate it! Rating #89 for this beer... Kinz (2221), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 6, 2005 On tap at Founders. Dark red body with a brownish tint, big light pink head. Tart raspberry and raspberry skin aroma. Bright, tart, crisp raspberry flavor, sweet and sugary with a nice bite, reminiscent of New Glarus Raspberry Tart but with a much higher ABV (and, hence, ethanol "kick"). Dense flavor profile; there’s no dearth of raspberries here. Very well-done, and it should be, as an 8-ounce tulip glass clocks in at $5.50! jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2007 This pours a pretty red color with a foamy pink head that left nice lacing on the glass. Very fragrant fresh raspberry nose that reminded me of a raspberry/currant jelly my mom used to make. Sweet/tart raspberry, currant, sour cherry and maybe a little wood flavors. None of the nasty artificial chemical taste you get with some fruit beers. This tastes all natural. The ABV is masterfully hidden. My parents, who usually turn their noses up when I give them beers to try, really enjoyed sharing this beer. After the mess that was Rubeaus, this is a great treat from Founders. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 6, 2006 Draught. Red-brown with a small white ring of head. Aroma is floral with chlorinated raspberry substance, herbal earthiness, and syrup. Strange funky properties but mainly cherry/raspberry sweetness that is too much so. Kind of syrupy and artificial. The alcohol is noticeable and warming. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2007 Many thank to mkofron for this fine beer. Pours purplish copper with a fizzy pink head. The aroma has lots of raspberries - it even seems like you are smelling the seeds. The aroma is between dry and sweet and comes across as very natural. There is some rich malt hiding in the background. Medium / full body that is rich and creamy with subtle carbonation. The flavor starts with smooth rich raspberries that are very authentic. There is none of the metallicness or cough syrup that comes with many fruit beers. The finish has a lushness and some smooth spices with some sharp tartness. I have to wonder how this is 12.3% since alcohol is nowhere on the taste, but then the effects of the beer let you know it is there. Thumbs up for this delicious beer.
