BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 21, 2007 From growler at DLD: Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights. The aroma has your standard BA vapours of vanilla, oak and booze along with syrupy maple and brown sugar characteristics. Some chocolate, grassy and aromatic hops, and a hint of pipe tobacco on the nose as well. The taste is surprising on that sweet as I feared because of the cleaning effect of the bourbon. You get a lot of sugary sweetness and husky malt tones at first but then the alcohol come a calling a takes over in a brash manner. In the end it the BA nature became a bit too much but I still enjoy the sample I did receive. The mouth feel is wonderfully lush and oily, mildly carbonated and a warming brew. Would like a set down with a full pint a see if that would be even a better experience. moejuck (1111), Ohio, USA May 4, 2007 DLD. If you didn’t get this, you really missed out. Deep brown body. The aroma was a nice mix of brown sugar, toffee, caramel, and bourbon. Taste follwed the aroma exactly, and was very, very enjoyable. I hope they bottle this one. badnewsbeers (961), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA May 1, 2007 well...this is odd...had this on tap at the brewery and it doesnt resemble that of any of the other ratings..initially i was served a backwoods bastard and was told it was this beer, then asked for another sample of it from a different bartender, and alas i was given the bourbon maple porter...it was dark amber/brown body with no head..aroma large in sweet bourbon and nothing else....ditto on the flavor..it was missing all porter characterisitics and had no maple to speak of...i guess i better go again to try, but this was more of a bourbon malt beer than a porter... bgburdman9 (708), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 1, 2007 How is the entire columbus crew the first to rate this. DLD also. Poured dark brown with a light colored head. Aroma of light bourbon and chocolate. Pretty good malty aroma. Real tastey beer. sliffy (1930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 30, 2007 Growler @ DLD: Poured dark brown with a khaki head. Aroma had some maple, brown sugar, caramel.
