Well I hate to disagree... I loved this beer. I also had it at the aniversary party and I drank it until the last keg ran dry. I loved it so much I tracked the brewer down afer a few years and Im having him brew me a keg for my wedding. sorry to disagree and Ill post back with the follow-up keg.
1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 aarossell (151) - Grandville, Michigan, USA - JUL 7, 2007
Being a mead-maker and one very interested in different meads I was anxious to try this one. I had it the first week it was available, but it just wasn’t much. Very little flavor--but for what was present it was okay. Light honey, ...light oak. Nothing much else. Caramel? Yes. Cloudy (should bee less so) Smooth, creamy, murky dark rusty orange / red. Should have been better.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pantanap (2838) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 25, 2007
draft at founder’s anniversary party....appearance: mediuim brown with no existence of any head.....aroma: sweet honey and very sugary....taste: more of the same. sweet honey with more carbonation than i would expect, especially for the mead style. i concur with masonjer of this beer being very one-dimensional. given the choice, i would probably not order this again but nice to try anyway.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 masonjer (605) - Holt, Michigan, USA - JUN 14, 2007
haven´t tried many braggots before, so I don´t have much to go from. Tried this at the brewery. Smelled sweet, tasted of honey, sugar, slightly floral. A bit one dimensional and overly sweet. Not bad though.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 badnewsbeers (2297) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 18, 2007
dark amber pour with no head..aroma of light honey, strawberry, and sugar...flavor of a tame mead (basic honey sugars)..a touch of berry fruit..the aftertaste of this beer is equal to the smell of a first aid kit
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tmoney99 (7300) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 17, 2007
Draft at brewpub. Poured clear reddish copper color with minimal off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Heavy dark honey and spicy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Heavy spicy sweet flavor with a rich sweet finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol burn as it warmed. Pleasing Devil Dancer and honey combo to give a barleywine flavor.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Hollywoodt (209) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 16, 2007
This is the first time I’ve tried a mead. It was dark orange in color. Very light aroma, some fruit and honey. The flavor was fairly sweet... the alcohol was definitely in the forefront. It was just OK... I probably wouldn’t order it again.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 15, 2007
On tap at Founders. Their first stab at a braggot in a couple years, this version is significantly stronger than the previous version, pouring a murky orange-brown compared to the light yellow-orange creation of years past. Fruity aroma with honey and alcohol heat, a touch estery. Rather dry body, the honey sweet but subtle. Instead, dry, dusty notes and alcohol coax the palate. Drinkable but pricey and on the mediocre side.
