4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Thanks goes out to a few great traders who have sent me this one
The bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a large two fingers worth of tan head on top of a thick jet black body
Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and oats with a nice background of caramel and vanilla this has one of the best smells of any stout I have tried
These tastes like you are eating a big dark chocolate bar while drinking a great cup of espresso with just enough caramel sweetness
To keep things from being overly bitter
It poured like molasses nice and thick in the mouth as well with just enough carbonation to keep things interesting
One a night would be my max on this one, but I wouldn’t mind drinking this a few nights in a row. A great all around stout

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2008 12 fl oz bottle, with twist off, thanks to Storm. Pours dark brown with a lacing light brown head. Thick coffee aroma, dense. Flavour is sweet malty with a distinct coffee note into a dry bitter finish. Lacks all the smoothness that the Bourbon version has. Coffee and beer - mix. Nice hardroasted coffee.

Pours an oily black color. A milk-chocolate head tried to form, but just didn’t have the carb. Huge nose of coffee with dark chocolate, caramel, and possibly some dried prune. A strong roasty flavor. Smokey coffee, molasses, burnt caramel, with a bitter finish. Very full flavor. A nice creamy mouthfeel. I wish I could drink this for breakfast everyday.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 Much thanks to my midwest main man, mreusch (Thanks, Matt!). A viscous, thick, soup of a pour, with a milk chocolate brown, enormously thick head. There’s not so much lacing left as the head dissippates, more like an opaque film on the glass. The nose is incredibly rich with coffee & chocolate influences. The flavor is more of the aroma, with a light touch of smoky maltiness, with a creamy mouthfeel, and a subtle bitter finish. I love great coffee and great beer, so this is a match made in Heaven! Excellent brew.

Big thanks to Styles for including this as an extra...
Wow, what a beautiful pour on this one.... Tee-totally jet black as it oozes out of the bottle and slowly forms a mocha colored head....
Smells very heavy of strong, dark, bitter chocolate and coffee. Makes me think of one of those extreme chocolate bars with 80% cacao beans or something. Mixture of dark chocolate and very strong coffee with a nice bitter kick to it. You can really taste the coffee here, very strong and bitter.... Much heavier than most oatmeal stouts, definitely a sipper. Not from the alcohol, which is non-existent in the taste but simply from the richness of this brew. I want to try the Kentucky and compare them... Thanks again, Chris...

Mar. 2007 - Many, many thanks to eaglefan538 for this one!I started drinking beer almost 2 1/2 years ago now. When I started, my favorite beers were stouts. I liked oatmeal stouts and I liked coffee. So, in my online searching of ratings, I set my eyes on Founders Breakfast Stout. It took me 2 1/2 years to get finally get my hands on one of these, but today I do. The beer definitely does not disappoint, pours dark as night with a dark 2 finger head that bubbles down to a foam layer that remains on the the top until the last sip. Lacing marks every sip and clings to the glass. The aroma is dark roasted coffee. The flavor is strong coffee, some dark roasted malts, some coffee, some oatmeal sweetness, a bit of coffee, a touch of chocolate and coffee. Some mild bitterness from the coffee balances out the sweetness almost perfectly. Thick grainy mouthfeel...like slurping the bottom of a coffee urn. Where’s the alcohol? Just great beer!

2005 Bottle, Maybe 2006:
Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head, the body is almost 95% opaque - only a sliver of light getting through. Aroma of deep roasted malt, coffee, smoked peat, nuts, chocolate and a very heavy dose of tobacco - a bit too strong up front. Full-bodied; Super strong alcohol, roasted malt and vanilla tastes up front with some smoked flavours and tobacco following soon behind. Aftertaste is very complex, yet very strong - not a light taste in sight. Overall, a good and impressingly full-bodied taste throughout. I thought this was good, but some of the smoked and tobacco tastes were a bit too strong for me. I sampled this few year old bottle originally purchased at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 16-February-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for rating #1700!

On tap at the Rotten Apple in Grafton. What a delicious beer! The coffee jumps out of the aroma and it stays consistent throughout the glass. Flavor is full of coffee, roasted nut, and dark chocolate with just a hint of hop. I found it to be amazingly smooth and just so easy to drink. This is a full bodied beer and is the classic "meal in a glass." Give me seconds!

Draft sampled at grey lodge. Pours black in color with a tan head and some lacing. Strong roasty aroma with coffee, chocolate and burnt malts. Rich roasted coffee flavor with light chocolate, dark roasted malts and some sweetness with a nice creamy mouthfeel and is full bodied and extremely well balanced with a long and dry finish. Awesome imp stout
