You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Big thanks to Styles for including this as an extra... Wow, what a beautiful pour on this one.... Tee-totally jet black as it oozes out of the bottle and slowly forms a mocha colored head.... Smells very heavy of strong, dark, bitter chocolate and coffee. Makes me think of one of those extreme chocolate bars with 80% cacao beans or something. Mixture of dark chocolate and very strong coffee with a nice bitter kick to it. You can really taste the coffee here, very strong and bitter.... Much heavier than most oatmeal stouts, definitely a sipper. Not from the alcohol, which is non-existent in the taste but simply from the richness of this brew. I want to try the Kentucky and compare them... Thanks again, Chris...

Mar. 2007 - Many, many thanks to eaglefan538 for this one!I started drinking beer almost 2 1/2 years ago now. When I started, my favorite beers were stouts. I liked oatmeal stouts and I liked coffee. So, in my online searching of ratings, I set my eyes on Founders Breakfast Stout. It took me 2 1/2 years to get finally get my hands on one of these, but today I do. The beer definitely does not disappoint, pours dark as night with a dark 2 finger head that bubbles down to a foam layer that remains on the the top until the last sip. Lacing marks every sip and clings to the glass. The aroma is dark roasted coffee. The flavor is strong coffee, some dark roasted malts, some coffee, some oatmeal sweetness, a bit of coffee, a touch of chocolate and coffee. Some mild bitterness from the coffee balances out the sweetness almost perfectly. Thick grainy mouthfeel...like slurping the bottom of a coffee urn. Where’s the alcohol? Just great beer!

2005 Bottle, Maybe 2006:
Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head, the body is almost 95% opaque - only a sliver of light getting through. Aroma of deep roasted malt, coffee, smoked peat, nuts, chocolate and a very heavy dose of tobacco - a bit too strong up front. Full-bodied; Super strong alcohol, roasted malt and vanilla tastes up front with some smoked flavours and tobacco following soon behind. Aftertaste is very complex, yet very strong - not a light taste in sight. Overall, a good and impressingly full-bodied taste throughout. I thought this was good, but some of the smoked and tobacco tastes were a bit too strong for me. I sampled this few year old bottle originally purchased at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 16-February-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for rating #1700!

On tap at the Rotten Apple in Grafton. What a delicious beer! The coffee jumps out of the aroma and it stays consistent throughout the glass. Flavor is full of coffee, roasted nut, and dark chocolate with just a hint of hop. I found it to be amazingly smooth and just so easy to drink. This is a full bodied beer and is the classic "meal in a glass." Give me seconds!

Draft sampled at grey lodge. Pours black in color with a tan head and some lacing. Strong roasty aroma with coffee, chocolate and burnt malts. Rich roasted coffee flavor with light chocolate, dark roasted malts and some sweetness with a nice creamy mouthfeel and is full bodied and extremely well balanced with a long and dry finish. Awesome imp stout

A trade extra from Emacgee. Pours black in color with a brown head. Aroma is great on this beer, with alot of fresh dark chocolate, fresh roasted coffee, and malty sweetness- one of the best aromas I’ve encountered in a stout. Taste is not even slightly a letdown- with a burst of rich coffee and chocolate over a sweet caramel base- rich full body, yet very smooth, creamy and drinkable. Finishes with lingering coffee beans, chocolate, and roasted malt bitterness. Drinking this was a great experience, thanks again Ethan.

viscous black pour with a fluffy light brown head that leaves nice spotty lacing. aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasty grains, lacto and light fruity sweetness. the palate is nice and dry with a roasty bitterness and low sweetness level. flavors of coffee, molasses, chocolate, roasted grain and salty characteristics. full bodied almost oily mouth feel but bitterness helps to cut through it. huge malty aftertaste. the flavor seems to drop off as it warms up. its good... it just feels as if it is missing something to put it over the top...

Good thing I LOVE coffee. Pours a motor oily thick black with a light brown head. Incredibly beautiful aroma of potting soil, roasty coffee and piney US hops. Taste has big notes of coffee and coffee, chocolate, earthiness, roasted malt, hops, some dark fruit and rum; awesome. Very full, round and creamy on the palate; seriously - the body on this beer HAS to be the silkiest thing on the planet. The great roastyness lingers forever. I have had this beer on four separate occasions over the past couple years; (full bottles) it never ceases to amaze. Perfection.

Pitch black with a small brown head. Medium strengh sweet and smokey smells of cigar/tobacco with a whiff of boozyness. Med. body and lightly carbed. Great taste of blackened malts and smokey sweet tobacco same as the smell. Has a nicely dry, bitter taste to finish. love it! 8405
