COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Bottle. Pitch black with a short light brown head. Coffe roasty soft sweet malty aroma. Quite good mouthfeel. Lovely roasty maltiness in the flavour along with coffee and a pleasant bitterness. Roastish pepper finish. Yes mamma!

12 oz bottle courtesy of BBB63. Pours a impenetrable black with a HUGE ANGRY brown head. Had to walk away and watch some hockey while the foam calmed down. Dark lacing thickly coats my snifter. Huge nose of espresso coffee. Have you ever gone off for the day and left the coffee pot plugged in? Well the aroma of burnt coffee you get when you return home is what this beer smells like. Flavor is, yup you guessed it, coffee. So much so I expected coffee grounds in the bottom of my snifter. Also, some flavor of bakers chocolate and caramel. Would have given a higher rating if it were better balanced. Just to much coffee. Glad I’ve had the opportunaty to try this brew.

12 oz bottle 2007. Pours a black opaque color with a small creamy dark tan head. Nose of roasted malts, coffee, lactic and chocolate, roasted malts overwhelm and dominate the nose. Initial taste is deeply roasted malts, tangy lactic, coffee and cream. Mid palate of mollasses and dark chocolate. Finishing with the continuing roasted malts and balancing bitter hop finish. Medium body. Great palate duration. Good head retention and lacing of the glass. Definitely tasty but I think this one is overhyped. Deep roasted malts overwhelmed the nose and taste draining the complexity of the brew.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2008 MMMM, so many flavors. Chocolate, cinnamon, cream , coffee, Coffee, and COFFEE. I’m not a huge coffee fan either, but I really enjoy this beer. The coffee is of course the backdrop of every sip, but it lets the other flavors shine as well. Breakfast stout also has a wonderful silky texture. Everyone should experience this beer at some point, and to taste it on anything but a clean palate is a sin.

Aroma – Big stout aroma. Dark malts, tons of coffee and chocolate aromas.
Appearance – Dark black in color with a thin stout head.
Flavor – Awesome flavors, Coffee, chocolate and dark malts. This beer has it all. Just the right amount not overwhelming like some can get.
Palate – Huge Mouthfeel, great stout texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – This was a great beer. One of the best I have ever had. The beer had so many flavors and they all came out. This will be one for the ages. Great Job Founders Brewing.

Bottle @ Yespr tasting.
[thank you, Storm]
Pours pitch-black with a pretty, creamy beige head. Good lacing on my glass. Aroma is powerful coffee with light caramel roasted sweetness behind it. Super creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, lots of coffee. Drink a Mikkeller Beer Geek instead...

[Courtesy of Storm, session @ yespr] Black with medium brown head. Burned malt in the aroma with coffee and liquerice. Same goes for the very burned malty flavor.

Thanks goes out to a few great traders who have sent me this one The bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a large two fingers worth of tan head on top of a thick jet black body Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and oats with a nice background of caramel and vanilla this has one of the best smells of any stout I have tried These tastes like you are eating a big dark chocolate bar while drinking a great cup of espresso with just enough caramel sweetness To keep things from being overly bitter It poured like molasses nice and thick in the mouth as well with just enough carbonation to keep things interesting One a night would be my max on this one, but I wouldn’t mind drinking this a few nights in a row. A great all around stout

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2008 12 fl oz bottle, with twist off, thanks to Storm. Pours dark brown with a lacing light brown head. Thick coffee aroma, dense. Flavour is sweet malty with a distinct coffee note into a dry bitter finish. Lacks all the smoothness that the Bourbon version has. Coffee and beer - mix. Nice hardroasted coffee.
