COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Appearance: black, brown head. Aroma: chocolate, coffee, dark roasted barley. Very nice. Flavor: Starts with strong coffee, light chocolate. Some alcohol. Ends with tasty, lightly bitter chocolate, slightly chalky finish. Body: Appropriate, maybe a bit thin. Outstanding stout.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2010 12oz shared by Beardface. Black with very large frothy head. Coffee coffee coffee. Chocolate, a little (slightly overdone caramel) and did I mention coffee? I was a bit hung over so didn’t enjoy this as much as I should have, solid though. Re-tasted lately and my non-hungover taste buds appreciated it much more. The chocolate and coffee work great together and the mouth feel is nice and silky.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2013 BOTTLE: jet black oily pour, chocolately and roasty coffee nose. Somewhat bitter taste - roasted coffee comes through, and lots of dark chocolate. Ridiculously good.

So delicously dark you can almost eat it. I cannot wait to try the KBS, if it really is better than this, it will be impressive.

I picked this up during a trip to Asheville, NC in November ’08 before Founders started showing up in Richmond in Spring ’09. This was my first Founders beer, and it is certainly quite a treat. Pours black as can be. This beer is insanely drinkable. I was very surprised considering that this is a 8.3% imperial stout, many of which are good, but sometimes tough to drink. I immediately get oats and chocolate with a finishing bitter flavor from coffee and hops. This is the breakfast of champions.

12 oz bottle acquired via trade and consumed while camping Memorial Day in the AM. Pours out pitch black with a massive mocha colored head. Aroma is hefty on roasted coffee, with light chocolate and some molasses as well. The flavor is all roasted coffee save for a very mild chocolate presence for some slight balance. Still extremely tasty though, wish I had a few more.

I rolled the dice and bought this beer hoping it was good. Wow, it was home run! Mind you, I’m totally new at this (tasting and rating beer) But, this was great. I liked the strong coffee flavour and the dark chocolate mix. I like the rich creamy feel and aroma. Great beer.
