[1938-20090110] 355mL bottle. Sweet chocolate coffee grounds aroma with dark wood notes. Black body with a quick dark brown head. Slightly bitter coffee grounds continues in the flavour with lots of sweet chocolate. Full body. Very delicious coffee and chocolate notes, great balance between the two.

Pours dark black with a brownish dark head. Beautiful coffee on the nose, chocolate, oatmeal and toffee. I could see having this for breakfast sometime. Full bodied. Nice and balanced if that is what you require from a big stout yes it is possible with this beer. Coffee on the front with the palate with really everything else in the nose tucked away in there. You also get oatmeal in the aftertaste as well. Wonderful stout and very highly recommended.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a decent size tan head. Aroma; unbelievable. Espresso, chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is heavy on espresso, bitter chocolate rounds it out. Fantastic stout. I love it! So much better than Youngs. I just wish it was available locally.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very black with fresh coffee smell. Has some chocolaty aroma hints as well. Strong espresso taste that’s not too bad. Very good, but a little thin for a stout in my opinion.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 13, 2009 On tap at Coasters. Pours black, color of motor oil with a 1/4 inch caramel head. Light hop aroma with hints of coffee. The aroma does not begin to prepare you for the flavors you are about to taste. Big coffee flavor with dark chocolate dominates. Finish lingers and is pleasant. Bested only by Speedway Stout and Espresso Oak Aged Yeti as far as coffee beers go.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2009 This was one of the first imperial stouts that i ever tried, and got me into drinking them and trying to find more i like. Could definitely see myself drinking this in the morning instead off coffee if i had an awful hangover or wanted to start my day with a drink.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a fairly thin dense black with brown notes. Just a touch of head. Aromas of seriously heavy roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, walnuts, some coffee. Mouthfeel is very tight with mostly caramel, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and almost like a very smoky whiskey. Well done, but just too heavy in the bitterness. Needs some sweetness to balance it out a bit.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is a hard to find beer on the West coast. Thanks Harpreet. Kind of funky aroma giving way to wood, chocolate, coffee, campfire, and a hint of fruit - not much. It has a small dissapearing dark brown head. The taste is sweet and sour with a heavy duty smoked wood bitter aftertaste. Hints of chocolate and coffee and a thick body give this beer a good balance between the sweet and bitter. A very lively brew with the alcohol not noticeable at 8.3. Not terribly complex, but tasty and satisfying.

So much coffee goodness, with a relatively low ABV for an imperial stout. Amazingly drinkable and very smooth and delicious. Black, with an almost perfect aroma for a coffee beer.
