COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Bottle. Pours jet black, with a slight brown head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma is huge coffee, chocolate, oats, sweet, roasted malts. Flavor pretty much matches the aroma huge coffee, chocolate, oats, sweet, roasted malts. Palate oily, resinous, full bodied, bitter finish. Needs a scoop of vanilla and a straw.

Pours black as can be with very little brown head. Aroma of rich dark roasted coffee beans with a hint of dark chocolate. Flavor profile is pretty much the same with a bit of a roasty hop bite at the end. Good full body. If I didn’t know any better I’d say this was a glass full of espresso.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2006 Coffee, and nothing but coffee! I enjoyed it, but it was too "unitaste" for me to buy again.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2006 On tap at Founder’s. You have to have a different Founder’s beer before this one to really appreciate everything about it. Beautiful roasted coffee flavor, feels warm even when really cold. Smooth and creamy, similar refreshing creaminess to the oatmeal stout. Very good, but like I said, it’s hard to appreciate unless you are going to look for the beautiful nuances of flavor.

Bottle (thanks Emily!). Pours a perfect pitch black color. Dark brown head sits atop. The aroms is a nice blend of oats, dark chocolate, coffee, and even some alcohol notes. The flavor starts off with a blast of oats and sweet malt, followed immediately by dark chocolate and coffee, and a fruity, yet bitter, finish that’s quite interesting.

No doubt, mornings wouldn’t be so bad if they could be started off with something like this. In addition to the abundant coffee and chocolate, I picked up some tobacco in the aroma. There was also some fruity flavor. I know that there’s some oatmeal in here, but it doesn’t have that smooth/rounded characteristic (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Black body, dark brown edge, beautiful brown head, some laces; Big, deep and actually quite elegant nose: There is huge amounts of coffee, fruity red berried African and very ,very soft Latin American, behind it strong notes of cold powerful well made Italian espresso, it has a very small amount of milk chocolate and a big amount of dry high % Valrhona chocolate, dry oatmeal, lots of hard powerful English licorice as well, Balanced!; The body is full with a soft texture and a quit big amount of red berry fruity acidity, very, very little carbonation, a little bitter and a little salty, could be better balanced; It finishes long with a little salt, more bitterness and again quite a bit of fruity acidity (better balanced then in body) it has a quite soft texture that disappears a bit in the acidity, alcohol shows a bit, lots of aroma: English licorice is in charge, trailing bitter chocolate, warm Latin American coffee and unripe red berries - Great beer, thanks Walt!

Aroma of ash, coffee, and chocolate. Appears an opaque black, with a small brown oil-slick on the surface. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey, with a deep roast coffee flavor that gives way to some ash notes in the finish. Palate is medium-light but with a smooth creamy feel. Overall, a very good brew. My thanks go to joeybgood.
