4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Judging by the top ranked beers, I can see I’m in the minority for not being a fan of stouts. However, I gave this a try and I was surprised. Wasn’t bad at all, and I would drink it again, but not in large quantities. Aroma was caramel, oats, chocolate, coffee. Appearance was very black, and not much head on the pour. Had a sweet and bitter taste throughout as I drank with strong notes of the coffee and chocolate (obviously). It packs 8.3%, but it wasn’t noticeable to me. I’m guessing after a few you would be feeling it though. I can see why this ranks well and it makes me want to at least try some of these other highly rated stouts now, even if they aren’t my drink of choice.

Pours coca cola dark brown color. Two finger diminishing head to a lasting ring of tan foam. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. Flavor is mostly coffee with a background of sweet chocolate. Smooth beer. I don’t usually drink stouts but this is a keeper.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Kaffe dominerar doften. Även nyanser av choklad. Rund och len smak men samtidigt en tung beska som hänger i, känns som den kommer från kaffe snarare än från humlen. Bra balans på kropp, beska och alkohol. Härlig och prisvärd bärs.

King/Spadina LCBO Outlet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
January 18, 2014
Part of the Founders feature at the LCBO (Backwoods Bastard, Breakfast Stout, Dirty Bastard, Pale Ale, Porter). The beer pours a coca-cola colour with a thin ring for a head. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and dark fruit. The mouthfeel is full bodied and creamy with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt and coffee. Not a lot of chocolate in the aroma or flavour. Very disappointed as the beer is solid but not as complex as I was expecting.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a bottle. Deep walnut with a thin mocha head. Aroma is cold bitter coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is sweet, but not overly so, followed by a nice bitterness to finish. The flavors mirror the nose, but the chocolate is more prevalent than in the aroma. Nice silky texture, soft carb, full body. One of my favorite stouts.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at Cicero’s in St. Louis, MO. Pours black, opaque with a thin tan head. This is thick, viscous. Obviously the warmer it gets the better it is. You can taste the oats, chocolates and malts on the fabulous beer.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pitch black, very viscous, with a half finger of creamy, chocolatey head. Some carbonation but minimal lacing. Nose is all coffee and chocolate. Some vanilla and caramel, but almost unnoticeable. Mouth is exactly what I expected. A ton of coffee/roasted malts up front, with an abundance of chocolate, caramel and oats. Slightly bitter finish, but a pleasing bitterness. A new standard on the style.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Pours black with thin white head that dissipates. Mild coffee aroma over little carbonation. Strong coffee flavors over a smooth and substantial stout.
