COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Youíve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. Weíre actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

{Iíve had this a bunch, both on tap and in bottles, so Iím surprised to see no RB review. ... so hereís one from notes to be revised next time I have some). A - nearly opaque; brownish black. Superb example of Imperial Coffee stout. Excellent balance of tastes with clear presence of coffee, malt and hops, and with both sweet and bitter components. Highly complex and dynamic flavors. Subtle chocolate flavor. Exceptionally smooth both while drinking and in finish. S - Aroma is much lighter and softer than expected for such a highly flavorful brew. Primary aroma: Malty roasted coffee Excellent, one of the best stouts Iíve ever had but bested by Founders CBS and a few other barrel aged imperial stouts.

Look: Medium heavy pour with thick average sized amber mocha head. It has a slow, equal retention, which leaves a nice pancake dough rings with lots of fine lacing through. Top layer stays for the whole ride. Dark, dark brown, canít see through.

Smell: Strong, ever persistent oat and nutty, creamy start. Over the time the dominant aroma develops further into milk chocolate and in the end into deep aromatic coffee roast, which only intensifies with time, temperature. Light dry fruit esters, hints of alcohol and light earthiness. Everything combined creates a good, chewy fatness, which isnít too stuffy.

Taste: Soft, velvety start with oats and creamy nutty cereal. It continues into middle medium balanced grainy roast sweetness with hints of caramel and ends with short milk chocolate spike just before the medium coffee bitterness finish. The aftertaste consists of long, gentle coffee, more aromatic than bitter with light milk chocolate and soft roast. Lingers for quite a while. Stickiness builds on the lips but the very light dry fruits and honey notes hold it up with some freshness.

Mouthfeel: Full light heavy body, surprisingly lively carbonation for the style, yet smooth and creamy.

Overall: What stands out in this brew is the overall smoothness and seemingly simple integration of all ingredients into a relatively complex and rich story. The balance is outstanding, a very good go to imperial.

Bottle @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with little off-white head. Aroma of coffee, some bitter chocolate. Oily mouth feel, bitter finish.

Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 12.01.15. Very dark brown. Beige head. Aroma of strong coffee, dark chocolate, roasted barley and juniper. Similar taste, with good bitterness.

Strong/medium aroma with coffee and chocolate in a bit bitter manner. Some of malty flavors smooth the aroma. Deep black color with dark brown notes. Small, thick and beige head. Strong taste is mainly composed of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Some bitterness on first bite. Licorice, some vanilla and malts. Very natural taste unlike in many Founderís products. Very balanced. Wide taste spectrum and long/medium aftertaste with coffee and dark chocolate. Very thick palate, definitely the best so far medium/low carbonation. Again a reference-class beer with perfect palate. Personally not so fund of dominating flavor of coffee.

this is one of the most perfect stouts iíve come across. poured hard into a proper pint glass, itíll give you a thick caramel head, producing scents of brown sugar and malt. the initial bite is quickly overtaken by the wash of mildly bitter coffee and chocolate, finishing with a roasty malt flavor that lasts long after the subtle sweetness subsides. this is what all stouts should aspire to be: a perfect balance of malt, bitter, semi-sweet, and high-gravity gravitas.

Heavy roasted chocolate aroma. Pitch black body with a tan head that thins quick and looks great lacing on the glass. A little bitter but you do get an initial dose of roasted chocolate and coffee. Hints of caramel sweetness too.Sense a bit of apple-like crispiness. Aside from the warming of my throat going down the taste gives nothing away as far as the imperial nature of this stout.

Big chocolate and coffee smell. Get the sweetness of the chocolates and oats along with a good dose of coffee on the nose, taste is the same. Fair amount of bitterness on the back.
