3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to NB snifter. Very dark brown pour, not much head or lacing to speak of. Aroma is old wet coffee grounds and some chocolate. Taste is more bitter coffee grounds, light smoke, a touch of bittersweet coco. Long bitter finish. Not my cup of tea, or coffee as the case may be.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours nearly solid black with just a hint of lightening around the margins, a short finger of beige head diminishing gradually to a thin ring, minimal to no lacing (4/5). Nose is coffee, oats, some chocolate, milkiness and sweetness (9/10). Taste is balanced moderate sweet and bitter with some citrus tart (9/10). Medium body, prickly to moderate sustained carbonation, off-dry lingering bitter finish with building alcohol warmth (4/5).
Maybe not quite up to the hype, but dammit, it’s close. The most surprising aspect is perhaps the body - I was expecting syrupy and mouth coating, but the carbonation and intense (but balanced) bitterness keeps that from happening. The coffee bitterness is supplemented by a nearly-hidden citrusy hop sharpness, and tempered by a lactose-like chocolate sweetness. The finish is nearly crisp as a result, the long bitter tail notwithstanding. The ABV is also extremely well integrated, coming through only as a gradual and mild warming. As a result, this is a surprisingly light stout that is very drinkable, and very dangerous. (19/20)

This is heaven. Coffee, chocolate, roasted malts; a dark and delicious experience that is well-balanced to want to keep putting this down forever. One of the first crafts I had a few years ago before that got me out of the dull light beer life.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Surtout chocolat noir. Agréable. Un peu de mélasse. Bon dosage sucre et amertume. Agréable, mais rien d’explosif.

Interesting beer and aptly named ... only thing I did not like was some chalkiness in the palate. A good beer to bring with you on an early morning fishing trip.

As soon as I see this beer I buy it. Dark and full bodied, warming and malty. Chocolate and coffee make a great combination and a great oatmeal undertone create a beer with a full and lasting flavor.

It is as if the brewers added barley malt and yeast to a pot of coffee, rather than adding coffee beans to the fermenting tank. Incredibly creamy with soft carbonation, never getting too acidic or "sharp" as coffee stouts are prone to doing. The best beer this brewer creates.

There may be a better imperial coffee stout, but I haven’t come across it yet. Nice roasty aroma, tan head and inky dark brown in color. Medium creamy with clean bitter finish.

Bottle. Black color. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, licorice. Taste is cough syrup, roasted almost burnt coffee, dark chocolate. This is very hoppy in that the malt does not overpower it. Pretty good.
