COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

I picked this up during a trip to Asheville, NC in November ’08 before Founders started showing up in Richmond in Spring ’09. This was my first Founders beer, and it is certainly quite a treat. Pours black as can be. This beer is insanely drinkable. I was very surprised considering that this is a 8.3% imperial stout, many of which are good, but sometimes tough to drink. I immediately get oats and chocolate with a finishing bitter flavor from coffee and hops. This is the breakfast of champions.

The breakfast stout to end all breakfast stouts! Pours like decadent engine oil. Only black in the glass with a pillowy dark brown head on top. The aroma is rich dark chocolate with robust coffee. In tasting the mouthfeel is full bodied, chewy, and satin smooth from the oats. Dark chocolate, caramel and again robust coffee.

355ml bottle. A little chocolate in the nose but mostly bitter savoury coffee and bread. Flavour is pretty much just coffee. It’s bitter and dark and there’s a nice roasted note that leads into an almost ash finish. My main complaint is that it’s quite boozy tasting, with a little brandy in there, which would normally be fine. However, for me, it really clashes with the oat notes. It means that whilst the foreground is nice, the background is a little chaotic. This beer is perfectly pleasant, just not spectacular for my tastes. I guess the description does say I have to love coffee, and I don’t really like coffee at all, so...

Bottle in wine glass. This is a really fine, cakey thing. Dense as hell but soft and smooth. One for the books.

Taste is quite creamy and thick, a lot of dark chocolate, roasted/burnt malts, vanilla, cacao, soft bitterness, low co2, quite sweet, malty base taste, earthly, nuts, a little too much coffee imho, pretty body, syrupy, milkchocolate, hazelnuts, medium complexity..... hmmm expected more of it.... at least less coffee.... however still ok..

Absolutely delicious. Strong coffee chocolate aroma. Flavor is quite sweet but there’s a roasted bitterness that keeps it from being cloying. Thick as oil, black as night. Tiny tan lace of head.

Svart och nästan trög. Brända toner, kaffe och choklad. Väldigt balanserad och trevlig. Fyllig och djup smak, gillar detta ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
