COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Pours midnight black with a thick beige head. Aromas are chocolate, caramel, mocha. Velvety smooth upfront flavors of chocolate, coffee, caramel. Surprisingly medium mouthfeel--lighter than I anticipated. The finish is coffee and malt but also gypsum. Damn fine beer.

A 355ml bottle with a best by date of 7th August 2015 and poured into a snifter glass. The beer poured a deep dark brown to black colour with a very thin caramel head that disappears quickly. There is also some light spotty lacing. Immediate strong roast coffee aromas with bittersweet chocolate along with a little root beer, toffee and caramel notes. Amazing taste. First thought was that it tasted like biting into freshly roasted coffee beans… so good! It was then followed by bittersweet chocolate and hints of bitter hops. Medium bodied, silky smooth with light carbonation. Overall, this was really good and over the last few years my favourite non BA coffee based stout. Each year I buy at least a case of this just for myself to enjoy over the winter and over the course of the year until the next yearly batch is brewed.

Tap at Nadery’s in NYC Aroma: Coffee, chocolate, malt, nice mix, no alcohol Appearance: Very dark with a brown/tan head, a smidgeon of light peering through. Taste: Coffee, chocolate, same as aroma with some extra sweetness/bitterness Palate: A little spice/alcohol but barely noticeable. Great mouthfeel. Excellent brew, good art on the bottle as well.

Bottle. Great appearance of black colour with dark beige foam. Aroma: lots of coffee and chocolate, roasted malts, hint of smoke. Taste: espresso coffee, milk chocolate, hint of dark fruits, alcohol presence. Medium to full body. Creamy mouthfeel. A great, super tasty beer!

Truly awesome. Your morning coffee combined with a stout. Don't have it in front of me so can't give an accurate review. But one of the best stouts I've ever had. Good bitterness. Balanced. Well done.

Appearance was oil black with lasting mocha creamy 1 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are expresso, bittersweet chocolate, roasted barley, hints of alcohol and brown sugar. Taste are milk chocolate upfront then roasty bite mid sip. The warming backend with black coffee smoothness. Palate was creamy smooth CO2 with full-medium body, slick lasting oily balanced finish. Overall a strong contender for an American Stout, smoother bitterness it would be perfect.

Intense coffee, chocolate and tobacco nose. First sip is dry and yields intense, dark coffee. Dry chocolate finish. Really really tasty brew. Intensely stout. This is a near perfect brew.

Tap to snifter at Tavern on Main. Deep black pour with tan head that falls quickly. Chocolate oatmeal and coffee. This beer is simple straight forward and well put together. Well done Founders!

355 ml bottle from Les Vignerons. Almost black looking, impossibile to see through, with a nice, fluffy and persistent dark beige head. Nice lacings. Lovely inviting aroma, even though not that powerful, from what I was expecting. White chocolate, hot milk with honey, coffee beans and tons of dark malts, toasted and roasted. Maybe a subtle reminiscence of blackberries in the background too. Velvety and luscious mouthfeel, quite sweet in the beginning, but than a moderate bitterness, togheter with a slightly astringent warming sensation, take the lead. Spot on espresso coffee taste, the proper stuff. Sirupy with a moderate/high dryness, relatively good drinkability. Soft to average carbonation, medium to full body, oily texture. These are the Imperial Stouts I really like, under 9% ABV but still packing a lot of flavour and a solid complexity. Great.

Pours a black body with a tan head that ends up as a partially covering film and some foam sticking to the glass. Very inviting and strong aroma of roasted malty, milk chocolate, chocolate sauce and coffee in the back. The strong flavour has the perfect amount of coffee, it doesn’t dominate the beer at all, I actually find it more influenced by chocolate. Maybe the long time spent on a boat from the US mellowed the coffee? I also get faint fruits, some alcohol and traces of leather. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Full body, creamy and smooth texture, soft carbonation. Brilliant!
[35.5 cl bottle, enjoyed 2 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge, Oslo]
