You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Pitch black, very viscous, with a half finger of creamy, chocolatey head. Some carbonation but minimal lacing. Nose is all coffee and chocolate. Some vanilla and caramel, but almost unnoticeable. Mouth is exactly what I expected. A ton of coffee/roasted malts up front, with an abundance of chocolate, caramel and oats. Slightly bitter finish, but a pleasing bitterness. A new standard on the style.

Tap, Sharkey’s Radford. Rich aroma of dark malts and coffee, great head, smooth, rich taste with a mix of dark malts. Rich and delicious.

ASPETTO: marrone scurissimo, impenetrabile.

May 11th, 2013 - Founders’ Breakfast Stout is the kind of beer that has been whispered about in dark corners of beer tasting rooms and liquor stores for years. But I never saw the thing anywhere in Colorado, Washington or California. But amongst the buried beer treasures we found in an unassuming bodega in Los Angeles was this thick, belly-leadening treat. By now most stouts all look like each other, and this is true here too, where a dark, almost ominous halo of brown fluff circles the top while a deep, dark brew sits at the bottom, meditating. The aroma is different - strange, intoxicating and deep. Inside there’s the smell of wet tree bark, cinnamon, the sharpness of freshly cut cedar, dark coffee, soy sauce, dark brown sugar, cacao nibs and a strong push of alcohol. And the flavor is an unctuous and boozy wave of delicious, smooth stout. Here a lighter, fresh and medium roasted coffee taste dominates, speckled with some of the sweet and bitter touch of cacao nib, and bolstered by a deep, chocolate flow that rocks the flavor from beginning to finish.

Founders Breakfast Stout has a thin, beige head, a dark brown, almost black appearance, and some fine, splotchy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate, and the flavor is the same with not-so-harsh bitterness and essentially no alcohol pickup. Mouthfeel is medium, and it seems to become more watery as one drinks it down, which is odd. Founders Breakfast Stout finishes powdery and flavorful. RJT

Massive coffee and dark chocolate aroma, the chocolate coming stronger forward as the beer warms up. Pours pitch black, and looks delicious in the glass. The taste is striking, lots of roasted coffee, lots of dark chocolate, smooth as hell. One of the best stouts I have ever had.

Rich dark chocolate aroma with the bitter sting of coffee. Pure black with a dark brown head. Full bodied, lots of hops, long bittle finish, dark chocolate and coffee. A huge and excellent beer.

Bottle from Drink Bar, they only had it from fridge so I believe it pretty much killed the experience but I’ve heard so much good words about it so I wanted to try it anyway. Really nice dark colour, coffee-chocolate aroma and little bit in taste. Waited a bit stronger consistency and foam but that’s probably because of the low temperature. Not the biggest fan of oatmeal beers but overall very nice stout indeed!

one of the best and for good reason. Delicious all around, chocolate, coffee, oats all well blended into a nice creamy body. perfect.

Snifter pour, fully roasted nose with loads or coffee and dark chocolate, bitter mostly. Flavor is fairly bittersweet, mostly black coffee up front with dark chocolate notes. Sharp but enjoyable. I dig it thoroughly.

oh my gosh! So exited, I can hardly contain myself. Beautiful fatty bubbles on the head. Smells like a big container of coffee and grain. Mmmmmm. What texture. tastes like brewed coffee with foam/chocolate. Bitter from alcohol but not hard to drink at all. Spicy?
