4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured at cellar temp (56F) from bottle. Pours a dark black color with two finger tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and a hint of oat. The coffee part of the aroma is earthy and a little dusty. Taste is like a black morning coffee with creamy chocolate. Mouthfeel is very round. This is deliciously creamy and you might even think of a milk stout with this creaminess. The oats do a great job making that creamy texture. Great on a cold evening.

Poured oily black with khaki head into a snifter. Dark roasted coffee with a touch of chocolate and oats on the nose. Taste starts very chocolatey and you get the coffee and oats on the finish. I enjoy founders’ other stouts (esp KBS) but this one is right up there. A great stout.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique August 2013. Yet another great beer from Founders. Deep black in colour with burnt slightly smokey aroma and a flavour that doesn’t leave you wondering.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This inky black beer pours with a bright brown coloured head. It has very rich chocolate and roasted floral coffee flavours with a red fruity and milk chocolate, coffee finish. Excellent!

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Black coffee in color with a deep mocha foam head that’s about one finger high. Foam head fades leaving spotty lacing down the sides of my goblet.
Looks to have average carbonation but difficult to prove.
Aroma is of black coffee chocolate roasted maybe even burnt malts and a touch of vinilla creaminess Dark black coffee and chocolate are the predominate taste here, followed by smokey and roasted malts. You can pick-up a subtle vanilla flavor too.
A full bodied beer here no doubt which coats the mouth with a sweet smoothness. A bit bitter at end that leaves a coffee aftertaste.
Extremely flavorful that would be go for chocolate type deserts of some sort.
Strong flavor would prevent me from drinking too many, but definely would drink several.

Thank you so much much for this, Sarry!
Opaque, black color, with a decent beige head, vanishing within seconds.
Stunning aromas of fresh pressed coffee, creating a fantastic, intense nose. Also, sweeter malts and bitter chocolate are recognizable, but in no way comparable to the inviting, beer-defining coffee aroma.
Taste is much more complex, with subtle hints of smoke among bread, toasted malts with sweeter chocolate and bitter, complex coffee, coated up by a generous amount of cream. This leads to an enjoyable, medium-body. The whole taste impression is very harmonic from the first moment it hits the palate. Carbonation fits great, adds a subtle freshness, which sweetens the chocolate in the midst of a whole lot of cream. Uprising chocolate-sweetness gets perfectly quenched by a coffee bitterness, which has the exact same intensity, leading to an outstanding balance. The finish is defined by bready malts, and fresh coffee beans, resulting in an enjoyable, earthy bitterness, which sticks for a long time.

Bottle from a trade, thanks Artmcd8! Black colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Aroma of roasted malts with notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Very well balanced. Bitter finish. Nice stout!

Chocolate, coffee, malt, and no surprise oatmeal. Really nice deep flavors. One of my favorite stouts.

Had this a few weeks ago. The smell was interesting, it smelt a little like Vegemite which put me off slightly. Everything else about this stout is amazing though. The taste is phenomenal. The rich aroma and taste of chocolate and coffee of this beer makes it a stand out. It felt like I was drinking a coffee cake, definitely lives up to it’s name of breakfast stout.

I do love coffee and good coffee but this just doesn’t do it for me. The coffee smell and taste is there but perhaps too much of it that kills the rest of the beer. Subjective I know but still does not take away from a fine beer and I won’t allow that to detract too much from the ratings.
This is still a lovely, thick, coffee, malt forward beer with chocolate and a little bitterness.

Pours a deep pitch black, almost like dirty motor oil. Aroma is coffee, and rich dark chocolate. Taste is, like the aroma, rich dark chocolate and a notable (but very good) balanced bitterness. Awesome beer. Coffee, and rich maltyness is also present.
